About Forqan

Using Forqan: a reader’s guide

How to read Quran passages, follow references, explore roots, search studies, download PDFs and share Forqan material.

Designed for connected reading

Forqan is designed as a connected library: the Quranic text is the starting point, with translation, reflection, roots and thematic studies offering paths for further investigation. Links help you move from a question to relevant evidence and return to the original passage.

The main navigation has four destinations: Quran, Roots, Quran Terminology, and Books & Articles. Persian uses a right-to-left layout and English a left-to-right layout, with controls adapted for mobile screens. Light/dark appearance, text size and line spacing let you adjust the reading experience.

Reading the Quran, translation and reflection

Start with the surah directory. Available chapter pages display published verses in Arabic with translation; reflection (ta’wil) and cross-references appear in separate sections where available. Publication is gradual: a chapter’s name in the directory does not mean all its verses or reflections are ready.

Use the chapter and verse selectors to reach a passage. “Reading” provides a quieter view for following the text; “Study” exposes the study-oriented presentation and tools. Open the expandable reflection and reference sections when you need them.

Verse references and following evidence

A reference such as 2:2 means chapter 2, verse 2. The verse number and its link controls provide a direct address to that passage. Use the verse’s own link rather than the general chapter address for precise citation. Example: Al-Baqarah 2:2.

Linked citations within reflections and articles lead to the referenced passage, allowing you to read its wording and context. “Cross-references,” where provided, bring related verses together. This makes it possible to examine an interpretation against other Quranic passages; a link by itself does not establish that the interpretation is correct.

A verse not yet published in Forqan may appear as a plain reference without a link. This does not mean the verse is absent from the Quran. When quoting or evaluating a passage, distinguish the Quranic text, the supplied translation and the author’s explanation.

Books, research articles and Quranic concepts

Books & Articles contains thematic research and longer studies. Quran Terminology provides another route into concepts such as faith and God-consciousness. Where a directory offers filters, use title search, initial letters or publication type to narrow the list.

In directories with previews, the information button beside a title reveals a summary and topics; on desktop, pausing over a title may also open its preview. The title remains a link to the complete text. Within studies that have an “In this study” contents list, select a heading to jump to that section.

Roots and interactive words

The Roots section supports investigation of Arabic word families and their Quranic uses and meanings. Annotated words can show brief root information and a link to the related study; not every word has an annotation.

Click or tap an interactive word and follow its root-study link. On the standalone Forqan site, pointer hover may also reveal word information; inside Tabsira’s embedded Forqan reader, this information opens on click. Some root studies and articles opened from chapter pages appear in a study panel, with controls to return to the verse or open the study in a separate tab.

A root is a research aid: examine a word’s meaning together with sentence structure, context and its Quranic uses.

Downloading and using PDFs

Select “PDF” beside a verse’s tools. Choose this verse, a range of verses, or all published verses in the chapter. Set the range if needed, then select “Download PDF.” Larger selections may take a little longer to prepare.

Verse PDFs include Arabic text, translation in the selected language and the available reflection; cross-references are excluded. If a range contains unpublished verses, the missing verses are listed and you must confirm downloading only those available. “All published verses” does not necessarily mean a complete chapter.

Articles and studies with a “Download PDF” button provide a readable copy of the full study with selectable text. Some directory previews also offer PDF download. Save the file for offline reading; downloaded copies do not automatically receive later website corrections. If generation fails, try again or select fewer verses.

Reading continuity, languages and other tools

The language control leads to the corresponding version where available. Persian and English coverage may not be completed at the same time. Copy-text and verse-link controls, where shown, help with note-taking and citation.

Forqan can remember the last reading location and some display preferences in the same browser. This is not an account or cross-device synchronization: clearing browser data or switching browsers may make that history unavailable.

From reading to questions and discussion

The pencil or discussion button beside a verse leads to its conversation in Tabsira. Public discussions can be read without signing in; to contribute, sign in and accept the participation principles. Connect your criticism to a specific verse or article and explain your reasoning and evidence. This button enables feedback and discussion; it does not directly edit Forqan’s original text.

Free reading and conditions for sharing

Reading Forqan’s public material and downloading its PDFs are free. As stated in Forqan’s page footer, sharing and redistribution for non-commercial purposes are permitted with attribution. Free access does not mean unlimited permission for every use; this permission does not cover commercial use.

To make attribution clear, include Forqan’s name, the study title and a link to the original page when quoting or redistributing. If you summarize or translate material, identify it as your summary or translation so it is not confused with the original. For uses outside the stated permission, contact the team. User contributions on Tabsira are governed by that platform’s terms.
