·Ornaments·89 Verses

In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Az-Zukhruf 43:1

Ha, Mim.

Az-Zukhruf 43:2

By the clarifying Book.

Az-Zukhruf 43:3

We made it an Arabic Quran, so that you may reason.

Az-Zukhruf 43:4

And it is, in the Mother of the Book with Us, exalted and wise.

Az-Zukhruf 43:5

Shall We turn the reminder away from you, disregarding you, because you have been an excessive people?

Az-Zukhruf 43:6

And how many a prophet We sent among the earlier peoples.

Az-Zukhruf 43:7

No prophet came to them without their mocking him.

Az-Zukhruf 43:8

So We destroyed those mightier than them in force, and the example of the earlier peoples has passed.

Az-Zukhruf 43:9

If you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say: The Almighty, the Knowing, created them.

Az-Zukhruf 43:10

The One who made the earth a resting place for you and made paths in it for you, so that you may find your way.

Az-Zukhruf 43:11

ۚ

And the One who sent down water from the sky in measure; then with it We revived a dead land. Thus you will be brought out.

Az-Zukhruf 43:12

And the One who created all the pairs and made for you, of ships and livestock, what you ride,

Az-Zukhruf 43:13

So that you may settle upon its back, then remember your Lord’s favor when you have settled upon it and say: Glory be to the One who subjected this to us, for we could not have mastered it.

Az-Zukhruf 43:14

And surely we are returning to our Lord.

Az-Zukhruf 43:15

ۚ

Yet they assigned to Him a portion of His servants. Indeed, the human being is clearly ungrateful.

Az-Zukhruf 43:16

Or has He taken daughters from what He creates and favored you with sons?

Az-Zukhruf 43:17

When one of them is given news of what he has attributed to the Entirely Merciful as a likeness, his face darkens and he suppresses his anger.

Az-Zukhruf 43:18

Or one brought up amid ornaments and unclear in dispute?

Az-Zukhruf 43:19

ۚ ۚ

They made the angels, who are servants of the Entirely Merciful, female. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.

Az-Zukhruf 43:20

ۗ ۖ

They said: Had the Entirely Merciful willed, we would not have worshipped them. They have no knowledge of this; they only conjecture.

Az-Zukhruf 43:21

Or have We given them a book before it to which they hold fast?

Az-Zukhruf 43:22

Rather, they said: We found our fathers following a way, and we are guided in their footsteps.

Az-Zukhruf 43:23

Likewise, We sent no warner before you to any town without its affluent people saying: We found our fathers following a way, and we follow in their footsteps.

Az-Zukhruf 43:24

ۖ

He said: Even if I bring you better guidance than what you found your fathers following? They said: We disbelieve in what you have been sent with.

Az-Zukhruf 43:25

ۖ

So We took retribution from them. Look, then, at how the deniers ended.

Az-Zukhruf 43:26

And when Abraham said to his father and his people: I am free of what you worship,

Az-Zukhruf 43:27

Except the One who brought me into being; He will guide me.

Az-Zukhruf 43:28

He made it an enduring word among his descendants, so that they might return.

Az-Zukhruf 43:29

Rather, I let these people and their fathers enjoy themselves until the truth and a clarifying messenger came to them.

Az-Zukhruf 43:30

When the truth came to them, they said: This is magic, and we disbelieve in it.

Az-Zukhruf 43:31

They said: Why was this Quran not sent down to a great man from the two towns?

Az-Zukhruf 43:32

ۚ ۚ ۗ

Do they distribute your Lord’s mercy? We have distributed their livelihood among them in the worldly life and raised some above others in degrees, so that some may take others into service. Your Lord’s mercy is better than what they gather.

Az-Zukhruf 43:33

Were it not that people would become one community, We would have made, for those who disbelieve in the Entirely Merciful, silver roofs for their houses and stairways on which they ascend,

Az-Zukhruf 43:34

And doors for their houses and couches on which they recline,

Az-Zukhruf 43:35

ۚ ۚ

And gold adornment. All that is merely the enjoyment of the worldly life; the Hereafter with your Lord is for the mindful.

Az-Zukhruf 43:36

Whoever turns a blind eye to the remembrance of the Entirely Merciful, We assign a devil to him, to be his companion.

Az-Zukhruf 43:37

They surely turn them away from the path, while they think they are guided.

Az-Zukhruf 43:38

Until, when he comes to Us, he says: If only between me and you were the distance of the two easts! What an evil companion!

Az-Zukhruf 43:39

Today, since you did wrong, your sharing in the punishment will not benefit you.

Az-Zukhruf 43:40

Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and one who is in clear error?

Az-Zukhruf 43:41

So if We take you away, We will surely take retribution from them,

Az-Zukhruf 43:42

Or show you what We have promised them; surely We have power over them.

Az-Zukhruf 43:43

ۖ

So hold fast to what has been revealed to you; you are on a straight path.

Az-Zukhruf 43:44

ۖ

It is a reminder for you and your people, and you will be questioned.

Az-Zukhruf 43:45

Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you: Have We appointed gods besides the Entirely Merciful to be worshipped?

Az-Zukhruf 43:46

We certainly sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of all worlds.

Az-Zukhruf 43:47

When he brought them Our signs, they immediately laughed at them.

Az-Zukhruf 43:48

ۖ

We showed them no sign but it was greater than its counterpart. We seized them with punishment, so that they might return.

Az-Zukhruf 43:49

They said: O magician, call upon your Lord for us by what He has pledged with you; we will surely be guided.

Az-Zukhruf 43:50

But when We removed the punishment from them, they immediately broke their pledge.

Az-Zukhruf 43:51

ۖ

Pharaoh called out among his people, saying: My people, do I not possess the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers flowing beneath me? Do you not see?

Az-Zukhruf 43:52

Or am I better than this one who is lowly and can hardly speak clearly?

Az-Zukhruf 43:53

Why, then, have bracelets of gold not been cast upon him, or angels come with him in company?

Az-Zukhruf 43:54

ۚ

He treated his people lightly, and they obeyed him; they were a defiant people.

Az-Zukhruf 43:55

When they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.

Az-Zukhruf 43:56

We made them a precedent and an example for those who came after.

Az-Zukhruf 43:57

When the son of Mary was presented as an example, your people immediately raised an outcry over it.

Az-Zukhruf 43:58

ۚ ۚ

They said: Are our gods better, or he? They presented it to you only for argument. Rather, they are a contentious people.

Az-Zukhruf 43:59

He is only a servant whom We favored and made an example for the Children of Israel.

Az-Zukhruf 43:60

If We will, We can make from you angels succeeding one another on earth.

Az-Zukhruf 43:61

ۚ

He is surely knowledge of the Hour; so do not doubt it, and follow me. This is a straight path.

Az-Zukhruf 43:62

ۖ

Do not let Satan turn you away; he is a clear enemy to you.

Az-Zukhruf 43:63

ۖ

When Jesus came with clear proofs, he said: I have brought you wisdom, and to make clear to you some of what you differ about; so be mindful of The God and obey me.

Az-Zukhruf 43:64

ۚ

The God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path.

Az-Zukhruf 43:65

ۖ

Then the factions among them differed. Woe to those who did wrong, from the punishment of a painful day.

Az-Zukhruf 43:66

Do they await anything but the Hour coming upon them suddenly while they are unaware?

Az-Zukhruf 43:67

Close friends that day will be enemies to one another, except the mindful.

Az-Zukhruf 43:68

My servants, no fear is upon you today, nor will you grieve,

Az-Zukhruf 43:69

Those who believed in Our signs and were submitting.

Az-Zukhruf 43:70

Enter the Garden, you and your spouses, made joyful.

Az-Zukhruf 43:71

ۖ ۖ

Trays of gold and cups will be passed around them. In it is whatever souls desire and eyes delight in, and you will remain in it.

Az-Zukhruf 43:72

That is the Garden you have been made to inherit because of what you used to do.

Az-Zukhruf 43:73

There is abundant fruit for you in it, from which you eat.

Az-Zukhruf 43:74

The guilty will remain in the punishment of Hell.

Az-Zukhruf 43:75

It will not be eased for them, and in it they are despairing.

Az-Zukhruf 43:76

We did not wrong them; rather, they themselves were the wrongdoers.

Az-Zukhruf 43:77

ۖ

They will call: O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us. He will say: You are staying.

Az-Zukhruf 43:78

We certainly brought you the truth, but most of you disliked the truth.

Az-Zukhruf 43:79

Or have they firmly resolved a matter? We too are firmly resolving.

Az-Zukhruf 43:80

ۚ

Or do they think We do not hear their secrets and private conversations? Yes indeed, and Our messengers are with them, writing.

Az-Zukhruf 43:81

Say: If the Entirely Merciful had a child, I would be the first of the worshippers.

Az-Zukhruf 43:82

Glory be to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.

Az-Zukhruf 43:83

So leave them to plunge in and play until they meet their day which they are promised.

Az-Zukhruf 43:84

ۚ

He is the One who is God in heaven and God on earth, and He is the Wise, the Knowing.

Az-Zukhruf 43:85

Blessed is the One to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. With Him is knowledge of the Hour, and to Him you will be returned.

Az-Zukhruf 43:86

Those they call upon besides Him possess no intercession, except those who testify to the truth while knowing.

Az-Zukhruf 43:87

ۖ

If you ask them who created them, they will surely say: The God. How, then, are they turned away?

Az-Zukhruf 43:88

And his saying: My Lord, these are a people who do not believe.

Az-Zukhruf 43:89

ۚ

So pardon them and say: Peace. They will soon know.
