بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Abasa 80:1

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّىٰ

He frowned and turned away,

Abasa 80:2

أَن جاءَهُ الأَعمىٰ

because the blind man came to him.

Abasa 80:3

وَما يُدريكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكّىٰ

What could make you know? Perhaps he would purify himself,

Abasa 80:4

أَو يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكرىٰ

or take heed, and the reminder would benefit him.

Abasa 80:5

أَمّا مَنِ استَغنىٰ

As for the one who considers himself self-sufficient,

Abasa 80:6

فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدّىٰ

you give him your attention,

Abasa 80:7

وَما عَلَيكَ أَلّا يَزَّكّىٰ

though you are not responsible if he does not purify himself.

Abasa 80:8

وَأَمّا مَن جاءَكَ يَسعىٰ

But as for the one who came to you eagerly,

Abasa 80:9

وَهُوَ يَخشىٰ

while he fears,

Abasa 80:10

فَأَنتَ عَنهُ تَلَهّىٰ

you are distracted from him.

Abasa 80:11

كَلّا إِنَّها تَذكِرَةٌ

No indeed! This is a reminder.

Abasa 80:12

فَمَن شاءَ ذَكَرَهُ

So whoever wills may remember it,

Abasa 80:13

فى صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ

in honored pages,

Abasa 80:14

مَرفوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ

elevated and purified,

Abasa 80:15

بِأَيدى سَفَرَةٍ

in the hands of scribes,

Abasa 80:16

كِرامٍ بَرَرَةٍ

honorable and righteous.

Abasa 80:17

قُتِلَ الإِنسٰنُ ما أَكفَرَهُ

May the human perish! How ungrateful he is!

Abasa 80:18

مِن أَىِّ شَىءٍ خَلَقَهُ

From what did He create him?

Abasa 80:19

مِن نُطفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ

From a drop He created him and determined his measure.

Abasa 80:20

ثُمَّ السَّبيلَ يَسَّرَهُ

Then He made the way easy for him.

Abasa 80:21

ثُمَّ أَماتَهُ فَأَقبَرَهُ

Then He caused him to die and be buried.

Abasa 80:22

ثُمَّ إِذا شاءَ أَنشَرَهُ

Then, when He wills, He raises him up.

Abasa 80:23

كَلّا لَمّا يَقضِ ما أَمَرَهُ

No indeed! He has not yet fulfilled what He commanded him.

Abasa 80:24

فَليَنظُرِ الإِنسٰنُ إِلىٰ طَعامِهِ

Let the human look at his food:

Abasa 80:25

أَنّا صَبَبنَا الماءَ صَبًّا

We poured down water,

Abasa 80:26

ثُمَّ شَقَقنَا الأَرضَ شَقًّا

then split the earth open,

Abasa 80:27

فَأَنبَتنا فيها حَبًّا

and caused grain to grow in it,

Abasa 80:28

وَعِنَبًا وَقَضبًا

and grapes and fresh herbage,

Abasa 80:29

وَزَيتونًا وَنَخلًا

and olives and date palms,

Abasa 80:30

وَحَدائِقَ غُلبًا

and dense gardens,

Abasa 80:31

وَفٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا

and fruit and pasture,

Abasa 80:32

مَتٰعًا لَكُم وَلِأَنعٰمِكُم

as provision for you and your livestock.

Abasa 80:33

فَإِذا جاءَتِ الصّاخَّةُ

When the deafening blast comes,

Abasa 80:34

يَومَ يَفِرُّ المَرءُ مِن أَخيهِ

on the day when a person flees from his brother,

Abasa 80:35

وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبيهِ

and his mother and his father,

Abasa 80:36

وَصٰحِبَتِهِ وَبَنيهِ

and his spouse and his sons,

Abasa 80:37

لِكُلِّ امرِئٍ مِنهُم يَومَئِذٍ شَأنٌ يُغنيهِ

each of them that day will have a concern that occupies him.

Abasa 80:38

وُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ مُسفِرَةٌ

Some faces that day will be radiant,

Abasa 80:39

ضاحِكَةٌ مُستَبشِرَةٌ

laughing and rejoicing,

Abasa 80:40

وَوُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ عَلَيها غَبَرَةٌ

and some faces that day will have dust upon them,

Abasa 80:41

تَرهَقُها قَتَرَةٌ

darkness covering them.

Abasa 80:42

أُولٰئِكَ هُمُ الكَفَرَةُ الفَجَرَةُ

Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.
