·The Spoils·75 Verses

In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Al-Anfal 8:1

ۖ ۖ ۖ

They ask you about the spoils. Say, “The spoils belong to The God and the Messenger.” Be mindful of The God, set matters right among yourselves, and obey The God and His Messenger, if you are believers.

Al-Anfal 8:2

The believers are only those whose hearts tremble when The God is mentioned, whose faith increases when His signs are recited to them, and who rely on their Lord.

Al-Anfal 8:3

Those who establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them.

Al-Anfal 8:4

ۚ

They are truly the believers. They have degrees with their Lord, forgiveness, and a generous provision.

Al-Anfal 8:5

Just as your Lord brought you out of your home in truth, while a group of the believers were unwilling.

Al-Anfal 8:6

They argue with you about the truth after it has become clear, as though they were being driven toward death while looking on.

Al-Anfal 8:7

When The God promised you that one of the two groups would be yours, you wished the one without armed strength to be yours. The God wished to establish the truth by His words and cut off the last of the disbelievers.

Al-Anfal 8:8

To establish the truth and nullify falsehood, even if the guilty dislike it.

Al-Anfal 8:9

When you sought help from your Lord, He answered you: “I will reinforce you with a thousand angels following one another.”

Al-Anfal 8:10

ۚ ۚ

The God made it only as good news and so that your hearts might be reassured by it. Victory comes only from The God. The God is Mighty, Wise.

Al-Anfal 8:11

When He covered you with drowsiness as security from Him and sent water down upon you from the sky to purify you with it, remove Satan’s defilement from you, strengthen your hearts, and make your feet firm through it.

Al-Anfal 8:12

ۚ

When your Lord revealed to the angels, “I am with you, so strengthen those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Strike above the necks and strike every fingertip of theirs.”

Al-Anfal 8:13

ۚ

That is because they opposed The God and His Messenger. Whoever opposes The God and His Messenger—The God is severe in punishment.

Al-Anfal 8:14

That is yours, so taste it. For the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.

Al-Anfal 8:15

You who believe, when you encounter those who disbelieve advancing in battle, do not turn your backs on them.

Al-Anfal 8:16

ۖ

Whoever turns his back on them that day, unless maneuvering for battle or joining a group, has incurred anger from The God. His refuge is Hell, an evil destination.

Al-Anfal 8:17

ۚ ۚ ۚ

You did not kill them; The God killed them. You did not throw when you threw; The God threw, and so that He might test the believers with a good trial from Him. The God is Hearing, Knowing.

Al-Anfal 8:18

That is so, and The God weakens the disbelievers’ scheme.

Al-Anfal 8:19

ۖ ۖ

If you sought a decision, the decision has come to you. If you desist, it is better for you. If you return, We will return, and your group will not avail you at all, however numerous. The God is with the believers.

Al-Anfal 8:20

You who believe, obey The God and His Messenger, and do not turn away from him while you hear.

Al-Anfal 8:21

Do not be like those who say, “We hear,” while they do not hear.

Al-Anfal 8:22

The worst of moving creatures with The God are the deaf and dumb who do not reason.

Al-Anfal 8:23

ۖ

Had The God known any good in them, He would have made them hear. Even if He had made them hear, they would have turned away in aversion.

Al-Anfal 8:24

ۖ

You who believe, respond to The God and the Messenger when he calls you to what gives you life. Know that The God comes between a person and his heart, and that to Him you will be gathered.

Al-Anfal 8:25

ۖ

Guard against a trial that will not strike only those among you who do wrong. Know that The God is severe in punishment.

Al-Anfal 8:26

Remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might snatch you away. He sheltered you, strengthened you with His help, and provided you with good things, so that you might give thanks.

Al-Anfal 8:27

You who believe, do not betray The God and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know.

Al-Anfal 8:28

Know that your wealth and your children are a trial, and that with The God is a great reward.

Al-Anfal 8:29

ۗ

You who believe, if you are mindful of The God, He will grant you a criterion, remove your misdeeds from you, and forgive you. The God is the possessor of great bounty.

Al-Anfal 8:30

ۚ ۖ

When those who disbelieved schemed against you to restrain you, kill you, or expel you. They plan, and The God plans; The God is the best of planners.

Al-Anfal 8:31

ۙ

When Our signs are recited to them, they say, “We have heard. If we wished, we could say something like this. These are only tales of the ancients.”

Al-Anfal 8:32

When they said, “O God, if this is the truth from You, rain stones upon us from the sky or bring us a painful punishment.”

Al-Anfal 8:33

ۚ

The God would not punish them while you were among them, nor would The God punish them while they sought forgiveness.

Al-Anfal 8:34

ۚ

Why should The God not punish them when they bar access to the Sacred Mosque, though they are not its guardians? Its guardians are only the mindful, but most of them do not know.

Al-Anfal 8:35

ۚ

Their prayer at the House was nothing but whistling and clapping. Taste the punishment for your disbelief.

Al-Anfal 8:36

ۚ ۗ

Those who disbelieve spend their wealth to bar others from the way of The God. They will spend it, then it will become a regret for them, then they will be overcome. Those who disbelieve will be gathered into Hell.

Al-Anfal 8:37

ۚ

So that The God may separate the impure from the good, place the impure one upon another, heap it all together, and put it into Hell. They are the losers.

Al-Anfal 8:38

Tell those who disbelieve that if they desist, what has passed will be forgiven them. If they return, the precedent of the ancients has already passed.

Al-Anfal 8:39

ۚ

Fight them until there is no trial and religion is entirely for The God. If they desist, The God sees what they do.

Al-Anfal 8:40

ۚ

If they turn away, know that The God is your protector. An excellent protector and an excellent helper.

Al-Anfal 8:41

ۗ

Know that whatever you gain as spoils, a fifth of it belongs to The God, the Messenger, relatives, orphans, the needy, and the traveler, if you believe in The God and what We sent down upon Our servant on the day of distinction, the day the two groups met. The God has power over everything.

Al-Anfal 8:42

ۚ ۙ ۗ

When you were on the nearer side, they were on the farther side, and the caravan was below you. Had you made an appointment with one another, you would have differed over the appointment. But this was so that The God might accomplish a matter that was to be done, so that whoever perished might perish on clear evidence and whoever lived might live on clear evidence. The God is Hearing, Knowing.

Al-Anfal 8:43

ۖ ۗ

When The God showed them to you as few in your dream. Had He shown them to you as many, you would have lost heart and disputed over the matter. But The God kept you safe. He knows what is within the breasts.

Al-Anfal 8:44

ۗ

When, as you met, He showed them as few in your eyes and made you few in their eyes, so that The God might accomplish a matter that was to be done. To The God all matters are returned.

Al-Anfal 8:45

You who believe, when you encounter a group, stand firm and remember The God often, so that you may succeed.

Al-Anfal 8:46

ۖ ۚ

Obey The God and His Messenger, and do not dispute with one another, lest you lose heart and your strength depart. Be patient; The God is with the patient.

Al-Anfal 8:47

ۚ

Do not be like those who left their homes in arrogance and to be seen by people, barring others from the way of The God. The God encompasses what they do.

Al-Anfal 8:48

ۖ ۚ

When Satan made their deeds seem fair to them and said, “No one among the people will overcome you today, and I am your protector.” When the two groups saw one another, he turned back on his heels and said, “I am free of you. I see what you do not see. I fear The God; The God is severe in punishment.”

Al-Anfal 8:49

ۗ

When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease said, “Their religion has deceived these people.” Whoever relies on The God—The God is Mighty, Wise.

Al-Anfal 8:50

ۙ

If you could see when the angels take those who disbelieve in death, striking their faces and their backs: “Taste the punishment of burning.”

Al-Anfal 8:51

That is because of what your hands have sent ahead, and because The God does not wrong His servants.

Al-Anfal 8:52

ۙ ۚ ۗ

Like the way of Pharaoh’s people and those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of The God, so The God seized them for their sins. The God is Strong, severe in punishment.

Al-Anfal 8:53

ۙ

That is because The God does not change a favor He has bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. The God is Hearing, Knowing.

Al-Anfal 8:54

ۙ ۚ ۚ

Like the way of Pharaoh’s people and those before them. They denied their Lord’s signs, so We destroyed them for their sins and drowned Pharaoh’s people. All were unjust.

Al-Anfal 8:55

The worst of moving creatures with The God are those who disbelieve and do not believe.

Al-Anfal 8:56

Those among them with whom you made a covenant, who then break their covenant every time and are not mindful.

Al-Anfal 8:57

If you gain the upper hand over them in war, scatter through them those behind them, so that they may take heed.

Al-Anfal 8:58

ۚ

If you fear treachery from a people, cast it back to them on equal terms. The God does not love the treacherous.

Al-Anfal 8:59

ۚ

Let not those who disbelieve think that they have escaped. They cannot escape.

Al-Anfal 8:60

ۚ

Prepare against them whatever strength and tethered horses you can, to deter thereby the enemy of The God, your enemy, and others besides them whom you do not know but The God knows. Whatever you spend in the way of The God will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged.

Al-Anfal 8:61

ۚ

If they incline to peace, incline to it and rely on The God. He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Al-Anfal 8:62

ۚ

If they intend to deceive you, The God is sufficient for you. He is the One who strengthened you with His help and with the believers.

Al-Anfal 8:63

ۚ ۚ

He brought their hearts together. Had you spent all that is on the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together, but The God brought them together. He is Mighty, Wise.

Al-Anfal 8:64

Prophet, The God is sufficient for you and for the believers who follow you.

Al-Anfal 8:65

ۚ ۚ

Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are twenty patient ones among you, they will overcome two hundred. If there are a hundred among you, they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they are people who do not understand.

Al-Anfal 8:66

ۚ ۚ ۗ

Now The God has lightened your burden and knows that there is weakness in you. If there are a hundred patient ones among you, they will overcome two hundred. If there are a thousand among you, they will overcome two thousand by the permission of The God. The God is with the patient.

Al-Anfal 8:67

ۚ ۗ

It is not for a prophet to have captives until he has thoroughly prevailed in the land. You desire the goods of this world, while The God desires the Hereafter. The God is Mighty, Wise.

Al-Anfal 8:68

Had a decree from The God not preceded, a great punishment would have touched you for what you took.

Al-Anfal 8:69

ۚ ۚ

Eat of what you have gained as spoils, lawful and good, and be mindful of The God. The God is Forgiving, Merciful.

Al-Anfal 8:70

ۗ

Prophet, tell the captives in your hands, “If The God knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you and forgive you. The God is Forgiving, Merciful.”

Al-Anfal 8:71

ۗ

If they intend to betray you, they have already betrayed The God before, so He gave power over them. The God is Knowing, Wise.

Al-Anfal 8:72

ۚ ۚ ۗ

Those who believe, migrate, and strive with their wealth and their lives in the way of The God, and those who shelter and help them, are guardians of one another. As for those who believe but have not migrated, you have no guardianship of them until they migrate. If they seek your help in religion, you must help, except against a people with whom you have a treaty. The God sees what you do.

Al-Anfal 8:73

ۚ

Those who disbelieve are guardians of one another. If you do not do it, there will be turmoil in the land and great corruption.

Al-Anfal 8:74

ۚ

Those who believe, migrate, and strive in the way of The God, and those who shelter and help them, are truly the believers. They have forgiveness and a generous provision.

Al-Anfal 8:75

ۚ ۗ

Those who believe afterward, migrate, and strive alongside you are of you. Relatives are closer to one another in the Book of The God. The God knows everything.
