In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Al-A’raf 7:1
Alif, Lam, Meem, Sad.
Al-A’raf 7:2
A Book sent down to you—let there be no distress in your breast concerning it—so that you may warn by it, and as a reminder for the believers.
Al-A’raf 7:3
ۗ
Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and do not follow guardians apart from Him. Little do you take heed.
Al-A’raf 7:4
How many towns We destroyed! Our severity came upon them by night or while they were resting at midday.
Al-A’raf 7:5
When Our severity came upon them, their cry was only to say, “We were unjust.”
Al-A’raf 7:6
We will surely question those to whom messengers were sent, and We will surely question the messengers.
Al-A’raf 7:7
ۖ
We will surely recount to them with knowledge; We were not absent.
Al-A’raf 7:8
ۚ
The weighing that day is the truth. Those whose scales are heavy are the successful.
Al-A’raf 7:9
Those whose scales are light are the ones who have lost themselves because they wronged Our signs.
Al-A’raf 7:10
ۗ
We established you on the earth and placed means of livelihood for you in it. Little do you give thanks.
Al-A’raf 7:11
We created you, then formed you, then said to the angels, “Prostrate yourselves to Adam.” They prostrated, except Iblis; he was not among those who prostrated.
Al-A’raf 7:12
ۖ
He said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” He said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.”
Al-A’raf 7:13
He said, “Then descend from it. It is not for you to be arrogant in it. Get out; you are among the abased.”
Al-A’raf 7:14
He said, “Grant me respite until the day they are raised.”
Al-A’raf 7:15
He said, “You are among those granted respite.”
Al-A’raf 7:16
He said, “Because You have led me astray, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path.”
Al-A’raf 7:17
ۖ
Then I will come upon them from before them and from behind them, from their right and from their left. You will not find most of them grateful.
Al-A’raf 7:18
ۖ
He said, “Get out of it, despised and banished. Whoever among them follows you—I will surely fill Hell with you all.”
Al-A’raf 7:19
Adam, dwell in the Garden, you and your spouse, and eat from wherever you wish; but do not approach this tree, lest you become among the unjust.
Al-A’raf 7:20
Satan whispered to them to expose what had been concealed from them of their private parts. He said, “Your Lord only forbade you this tree lest you become two angels or become among those who remain forever.”
Al-A’raf 7:21
He swore to them, “I am a sincere adviser to you.”
Al-A’raf 7:22
ۚ ۖ
He drew them down through deception. When they tasted the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began fastening leaves of the Garden over themselves. Their Lord called to them, “Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you that Satan is a clear enemy to you?”
Al-A’raf 7:23
They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers.”
Al-A’raf 7:24
ۖ
He said, “Descend, some of you enemies to others. On the earth you will have a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time.”
Al-A’raf 7:25
He said, “In it you will live, in it you will die, and from it you will be brought out.”
Al-A’raf 7:26
ۖ ۚ
Children of Adam, We have sent down to you clothing to cover your private parts and as adornment. The clothing of mindfulness—that is better. This is among the signs of The God, so that they may take heed.
Al-A’raf 7:27
ۗ ۗ
Children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you, as he drove your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. He and his company see you from where you do not see them. We have made the devils guardians of those who do not believe.
Al-A’raf 7:28
ۗ ۖ
When they commit an indecency, they say, “We found our fathers upon it, and The God commanded us to do it.” Say, “The God does not command indecency. Do you say about The God what you do not know?”
Al-A’raf 7:29
ۖ ۚ
Say, “My Lord has commanded justice. Set your faces upright at every place of prostration, and call upon Him, making religion sincere to Him. As He originated you, you will return.”
Al-A’raf 7:30
ۗ
A group He guided, and a group deserved error. They took the devils as guardians apart from The God, and they think they are guided.
Al-A’raf 7:31
ۚ
Children of Adam, take your adornment at every place of prostration. Eat and drink, but do not be excessive; He does not love the excessive.
Al-A’raf 7:32
ۚ ۗ
Say, “Who has forbidden the adornment of The God that He brought forth for His servants, and the good things of provision?” Say, “They are for those who believe in the worldly life, exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection.” Thus We explain the signs in detail for people who know.
Al-A’raf 7:33
Say, “My Lord has only forbidden indecencies, outward and hidden, sin and unjust aggression, associating with The God that for which He has sent down no authority, and saying about The God what you do not know.”
Al-A’raf 7:34
ۖ ۖ
Every community has a term. When their term comes, they can neither delay it an hour nor advance it.
Al-A’raf 7:35
ۙ
Children of Adam, if messengers from among you come to you, relating My signs, then those who are mindful and make amends will have no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.
Al-A’raf 7:36
ۖ
Those who deny Our signs and turn arrogantly away from them are the companions of the Fire; they remain in it.
Al-A’raf 7:37
ۚ ۖ ۖ
Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about The God or denies His signs? Their portion from the Book will reach them, until Our messengers come to take them and say, “Where are those you called upon apart from The God?” They will say, “They have vanished from us,” and testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.
Al-A’raf 7:38
ۖ ۖ ۖ
He will say, “Enter the Fire among communities of jinn and humans that passed before you.” Whenever a community enters, it curses its sister community. When they have all joined one another in it, the last of them will say about the first, “Our Lord, these led us astray; give them a double punishment of the Fire.” He will say, “For each is double, but you do not know.”
Al-A’raf 7:39
The first of them will say to the last, “You had no advantage over us; so taste the punishment for what you used to earn.”
Al-A’raf 7:40
ۚ
Those who deny Our signs and turn arrogantly away from them will not have the gates of heaven opened for them, nor will they enter the Garden until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. Thus We repay the guilty.
Al-A’raf 7:41
ۚ
For them is a bed of Hell and coverings above them. Thus We repay the unjust.
Al-A’raf 7:42
ۖ
Those who believe and do righteous deeds—We burden no soul beyond its capacity—are the companions of the Garden; they remain in it.
Al-A’raf 7:43
ۖ ۖ ۖ
We will remove whatever rancor is in their breasts; rivers flow beneath them. They will say, “Praise belongs to The God, who guided us to this. We would not have been guided had The God not guided us. Our Lord’s messengers came with the truth.” They will be called, “This is the Garden you have been made to inherit for what you used to do.”
Al-A’raf 7:44
ۖ ۚ
The companions of the Garden will call to the companions of the Fire, “We have found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?” They will say, “Yes.” An announcer among them will proclaim, “The curse of The God is upon the unjust.”
Al-A’raf 7:45
Those who hinder others from the path of The God, seek to make it crooked, and disbelieve in the Hereafter.
Al-A’raf 7:46
ۚ ۚ ۚ
Between the two is a barrier, and on the heights are men who recognize each by their marks. They call to the companions of the Garden, “Peace be upon you.” They have not entered it, though they hope to.
Al-A’raf 7:47
When their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, “Our Lord, do not place us with the unjust people.”
Al-A’raf 7:48
The companions of the heights call to men whom they recognize by their marks, saying, “Your gathering and your arrogance have not availed you.”
Al-A’raf 7:49
ۚ
Are these the ones you swore The God would not reach with mercy? Enter the Garden; no fear will be upon you, nor will you grieve.
Al-A’raf 7:50
ۚ
The companions of the Fire call to the companions of the Garden, “Pour some water upon us, or some of what The God has provided you.” They say, “The God has forbidden both to the disbelievers.”
Al-A’raf 7:51
ۚ
Those who took their religion as diversion and play, and whom the worldly life deceived. Today We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs and rejected Our signs.
Al-A’raf 7:52
We brought them a Book which We explained in detail with knowledge, as guidance and mercy for people who believe.
Al-A’raf 7:53
ۚ ۚ
Are they waiting for anything but its fulfillment? On the day its fulfillment comes, those who forgot it before will say, “Our Lord’s messengers came with the truth. Do we have intercessors to intercede for us, or can we be sent back to act differently from how we used to act?” They have lost themselves, and what they used to invent has vanished from them.
Al-A’raf 7:54
ۗ ۗ
Your Lord is The God, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself upon the Throne. He covers the day with the night, which pursues it swiftly; and the sun, the moon, and the stars are subjected to His command. Creation and command belong to Him. Blessed is The God, Lord of the worlds.
Al-A’raf 7:55
ۚ
Call upon your Lord humbly and secretly. He does not love the transgressors.
Al-A’raf 7:56
ۚ
Do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set right, and call upon Him with fear and hope. The mercy of The God is near to those who do good.
Al-A’raf 7:57
ۖ ۚ
He is the One who sends the winds as good news ahead of His mercy. When they carry heavy clouds, We drive them to a dead land and send down water with them; with it We bring forth every kind of fruit. Thus We bring forth the dead, so that you may take heed.
Al-A’raf 7:58
ۖ ۚ
The good land brings forth its vegetation by its Lord’s permission; what is bad brings forth only scantily. Thus We present the signs in varied ways for people who give thanks.
Al-A’raf 7:59
We sent Noah to his people, and he said, “My people, worship The God; you have no god other than Him. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.”
Al-A’raf 7:60
The leaders of his people said, “We see you in clear error.”
Al-A’raf 7:61
He said, “My people, there is no error in me; rather, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.”
Al-A’raf 7:62
I convey my Lord’s messages to you, advise you sincerely, and know from The God what you do not know.
Al-A’raf 7:63
Are you astonished that a reminder from your Lord has come to you upon a man from among you, to warn you, so that you may be mindful and may receive mercy?
Al-A’raf 7:64
ۚ
They denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship, and drowned those who denied Our signs. They were a blind people.
Al-A’raf 7:65
ۗ ۚ
And to Aad, their brother Hud. He said, “My people, worship The God; you have no god other than Him. Will you not be mindful?”
Al-A’raf 7:66
The leaders of his people who disbelieved said, “We see you in foolishness, and we think you are among the liars.”
Al-A’raf 7:67
He said, “My people, there is no foolishness in me; rather, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.”
Al-A’raf 7:68
I convey my Lord’s messages to you, and I am a trustworthy adviser to you.
Al-A’raf 7:69
ۚ ۖ
Are you astonished that a reminder from your Lord has come to you upon a man from among you, to warn you? Remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature. Remember the favors of The God, so that you may prosper.
Al-A’raf 7:70
ۖ
They said, “Have you come to us so that we worship The God alone and leave what our fathers worshipped? Bring us what you promise us, if you are truthful.”
Al-A’raf 7:71
ۖ ۚ
He said, “Defilement and anger from your Lord have fallen upon you. Do you argue with me about names that you and your fathers have named, for which The God has sent down no authority? Wait, then; I too am waiting with you.”
Al-A’raf 7:72
ۖ
We saved him and those with him through mercy from Us, and cut off to the last those who denied Our signs. They were not believers.
Al-A’raf 7:73
ۗ ۖ ۖ ۖ ۖ
And to Thamud, their brother Salih. He said, “My people, worship The God; you have no god other than Him. Clear evidence has come to you from your Lord. This she-camel of The God is a sign for you; leave her to eat on the earth of The God, and do not touch her with harm, lest a painful punishment seize you.”
Al-A’raf 7:74
ۖ
Remember when He made you successors after Aad and settled you on the earth. You build palaces on its plains and carve the mountains into homes. Remember the favors of The God, and do not act wickedly on the earth, spreading corruption.
Al-A’raf 7:75
ۚ
The arrogant leaders of his people said to those considered weak, to those among them who believed, “Do you know that Salih is sent from his Lord?” They said, “We believe in what he has been sent with.”
Al-A’raf 7:76
Those who were arrogant said, “We disbelieve in what you believe in.”
Al-A’raf 7:77
They hamstrung the she-camel, defied their Lord’s command, and said, “Salih, bring us what you promise us, if you are among the messengers.”
Al-A’raf 7:78
The earthquake seized them, and they lay fallen in their dwelling.
Al-A’raf 7:79
He turned away from them and said, “My people, I conveyed my Lord’s message to you and advised you sincerely, but you do not love sincere advisers.”
Al-A’raf 7:80
And Lot, when he said to his people, “Do you commit the indecency in which no one among the worlds has preceded you?”
Al-A’raf 7:81
ۚ
You approach men with desire instead of women. Rather, you are an excessive people.
Al-A’raf 7:82
ۖ
His people’s answer was only to say, “Drive them out of your town. They are people who keep themselves pure.”
Al-A’raf 7:83
We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was among those who remained behind.
Al-A’raf 7:84
ۖ
We rained a rain upon them. See how the guilty ended.
Al-A’raf 7:85
ۗ ۖ ۖ ۚ
And to Midian, their brother Shuayb. He said, “My people, worship The God; you have no god other than Him. Clear evidence has come to you from your Lord. Give full measure and weight, do not diminish people’s goods, and do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set right. That is better for you, if you are believers.”
Al-A’raf 7:86
ۚ ۖ
Do not sit on every path, threatening and hindering from the path of The God those who believe in Him, and seeking to make it crooked. Remember when you were few and He made you many. See how the corrupters ended.
Al-A’raf 7:87
ۚ
If a group among you believes in what I have been sent with, and a group does not believe, be patient until The God judges between us. He is the best of judges.
Al-A’raf 7:88
ۚ
The arrogant leaders of his people said, “Shuayb, we will surely drive you and those who believe with you out of our town, unless you return to our way.” He said, “Even if we are unwilling?”
Al-A’raf 7:89
ۚ ۚ ۚ ۚ
We would have invented a lie about The God if we returned to your way after The God saved us from it. It is not for us to return to it unless The God, our Lord, wills. Our Lord encompasses everything in knowledge. In The God we trust. Our Lord, decide between us and our people in truth; You are the best of deciders.
Al-A’raf 7:90
The leaders of his people who disbelieved said, “If you follow Shuayb, you will surely be losers.”
Al-A’raf 7:91
The earthquake seized them, and they lay fallen in their dwelling.
Al-A’raf 7:92
ۚ
Those who denied Shuayb were as though they had never lived there. Those who denied Shuayb were themselves the losers.
Al-A’raf 7:93
ۖ
He turned away from them and said, “My people, I conveyed my Lord’s messages to you and advised you sincerely. How, then, should I grieve for a disbelieving people?”
Al-A’raf 7:94
We sent no prophet to a town without seizing its people with hardship and adversity, so that they might humble themselves in supplication.
Al-A’raf 7:95
Then We replaced adversity with good until they flourished and said, “Adversity and ease touched our fathers too.” We seized them suddenly while they were unaware.
Al-A’raf 7:96
Had the people of the towns believed and been mindful, We would have opened blessings from heaven and earth for them. But they denied, so We seized them for what they used to earn.
Al-A’raf 7:97
Do the people of the towns feel secure that Our severity will not come upon them by night while they sleep?
Al-A’raf 7:98
Or do the people of the towns feel secure that Our severity will not come upon them in the morning while they play?
Al-A’raf 7:99
ۚ
Do they feel secure from the plan of The God? None feels secure from the plan of The God except the losing people.
Al-A’raf 7:100
ۚ
Has it not become clear to those who inherit the earth after its people that, if We will, We can afflict them for their sins? We seal their hearts, so they do not hear.
Al-A’raf 7:101
ۚ ۚ
Those towns—We relate to you some of their news. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they would not believe in what they had denied before. Thus The God seals the hearts of the disbelievers.
Al-A’raf 7:102
ۖ
We found no covenant in most of them, and We found most of them disobedient.
Al-A’raf 7:103
ۖ
Then after them We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his leaders, but they wronged them. See how the corrupters ended.
Al-A’raf 7:104
Moses said, “Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.”
Al-A’raf 7:105
ۚ
It is incumbent upon me to say nothing about The God except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send the Children of Israel with me.
Al-A’raf 7:106
He said, “If you have come with a sign, bring it, if you are truthful.”
Al-A’raf 7:107
He threw down his staff, and it was a manifest serpent.
Al-A’raf 7:108
He drew out his hand, and it was white to those looking on.
Al-A’raf 7:109
The leaders of Pharaoh’s people said, “This is a knowledgeable magician.”
Al-A’raf 7:110
ۖ
He wants to drive you out of your land. What, then, do you command?
Al-A’raf 7:111
They said, “Put him and his brother off, and send gatherers into the cities.”
Al-A’raf 7:112
To bring you every knowledgeable magician.
Al-A’raf 7:113
The magicians came to Pharaoh and said, “Surely we will have a reward if we are the victors.”
Al-A’raf 7:114
He said, “Yes, and you will be among those brought near.”
Al-A’raf 7:115
They said, “Moses, either you throw, or we will be the ones to throw.”
Al-A’raf 7:116
ۖ
He said, “Throw.” When they threw, they bewitched people’s eyes, terrified them, and produced great magic.
Al-A’raf 7:117
ۖ
We revealed to Moses, “Throw your staff.” It began swallowing what they were falsifying.
Al-A’raf 7:118
The truth prevailed, and what they were doing came to nothing.
Al-A’raf 7:119
They were defeated there and turned back abased.
Al-A’raf 7:120
The magicians were cast down in prostration.
Al-A’raf 7:121
They said, “We believe in the Lord of the worlds.”
Al-A’raf 7:122
The Lord of Moses and Aaron.
Al-A’raf 7:123
ۖ ۖ
Pharaoh said, “You believed in Him before I gave you permission? This is a plot you devised in the city to drive its people out. You will come to know.”
Al-A’raf 7:124
I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, then crucify you all.
Al-A’raf 7:125
They said, “We are returning to our Lord.”
Al-A’raf 7:126
ۚ
You resent us only because we believed in our Lord’s signs when they came to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us and take us in submission.
Al-A’raf 7:127
ۚ
The leaders of Pharaoh’s people said, “Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption on the earth, and to abandon you and your gods?” He said, “We will kill their sons and keep their women alive. We are dominant over them.”
Al-A’raf 7:128
ۖ ۖ
Moses said to his people, “Seek help from The God and be patient. The earth belongs to The God; He gives it as an inheritance to whomever He wills among His servants. The final outcome belongs to the mindful.”
Al-A’raf 7:129
ۚ
They said, “We were harmed before you came to us and after you came.” He said, “Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors on the earth, then see how you act.”
Al-A’raf 7:130
We afflicted Pharaoh’s people with years of scarcity and a shortage of fruits, so that they might take heed.
Al-A’raf 7:131
ۖ ۗ
When good came to them, they said, “This is ours.” If adversity struck them, they took Moses and those with him as an evil omen. Their fortune is only with The God, but most of them do not know.
Al-A’raf 7:132
They said, “Whatever sign you bring us to bewitch us, we will not believe you.”
Al-A’raf 7:133
We sent upon them the flood, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood as distinct signs. They were arrogant and were a guilty people.
Al-A’raf 7:134
ۖ
When the affliction fell upon them, they said, “Moses, call upon your Lord for us by the covenant He has with you. If you remove the affliction from us, we will surely believe you and send the Children of Israel with you.”
Al-A’raf 7:135
When We removed the affliction from them until a term they were to reach, they broke their pledge.
Al-A’raf 7:136
We took retribution from them and drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
Al-A’raf 7:137
ۖ ۖ
We made the people who had been oppressed inherit the eastern and western parts of the land We had blessed. Your Lord’s good word was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because they were patient. We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people were making and what they were erecting.
Al-A’raf 7:138
ۚ ۚ
We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and they came upon people devoted to idols of their own. They said, “Moses, make a god for us as they have gods.” He said, “You are a people acting ignorantly.”
Al-A’raf 7:139
What these people are engaged in is doomed to destruction, and what they have been doing is false.
Al-A’raf 7:140
He said, “Shall I seek a god for you other than The God, when He has favored you above the worlds?”
Al-A’raf 7:141
ۖ ۚ
When We saved you from Pharaoh’s people, who subjected you to terrible punishment, killing your sons and keeping your women alive. In that was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
Al-A’raf 7:142
ۚ
We appointed thirty nights for Moses and completed them with ten, so his Lord’s appointed time was fulfilled in forty nights. Moses said to his brother Aaron, “Take my place among my people, set things right, and do not follow the way of the corrupters.”
Al-A’raf 7:143
ۚ ۚ ۚ
When Moses came at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, “My Lord, show me, that I may look at You.” He said, “You will not see Me, but look at the mountain. If it remains in its place, you will see Me.” When his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, He made it crumble, and Moses fell unconscious. When he recovered, he said, “Glory be to You! I turn to You in repentance, and I am the first of the believers.”
Al-A’raf 7:144
He said, “Moses, I have chosen you above people with My messages and My speaking. Take what I have given you and be among the grateful.”
Al-A’raf 7:145
ۚ
We wrote for him on the tablets an admonition concerning everything and an explanation of everything. Take them firmly and command your people to take the best of them. I will show you the abode of the disobedient.
Al-A’raf 7:146
ۚ
I will turn away from My signs those who are unjustly arrogant on the earth. If they see every sign, they will not believe in it; if they see the way of sound guidance, they will not take it as a way, but if they see the way of error, they will take it as a way. That is because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
Al-A’raf 7:147
ۚ
Those who deny Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter—their deeds have come to nothing. Are they repaid for anything but what they used to do?
Al-A’raf 7:148
ۚ ۘ
After Moses, his people took from their ornaments a calf, a body with a lowing sound. Did they not see that it neither spoke to them nor guided them to a way? They took it and were unjust.
Al-A’raf 7:149
When they were overcome with remorse and saw that they had gone astray, they said, “Unless our Lord has mercy on us and forgives us, we will surely be among the losers.”
Al-A’raf 7:150
ۖ ۖ ۚ
When Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, “Evil is how you succeeded me after I left. Did you seek to hasten your Lord’s command?” He threw down the tablets and seized his brother by the head, pulling him toward himself. He said, “Son of my mother, the people overpowered me and nearly killed me. Do not make the enemies rejoice over me, and do not place me with the unjust people.”
Al-A’raf 7:151
ۖ
He said, “My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy. You are the most merciful of those who show mercy.”
Al-A’raf 7:152
ۚ
Those who took the calf will be reached by anger from their Lord and humiliation in the worldly life. Thus We repay those who invent lies.
Al-A’raf 7:153
Those who did evil deeds, then repented afterward and believed—your Lord after that is Forgiving, Merciful.
Al-A’raf 7:154
ۖ
When Moses’ anger subsided, he took up the tablets. In their inscription were guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord.
Al-A’raf 7:155
ۖ ۖ ۖ ۖ ۖ
Moses chose seventy men from his people for Our appointed time. When the earthquake seized them, he said, “My Lord, had You willed, You could have destroyed them and me before. Will You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is only Your trial; by it You lead astray whomever You will and guide whomever You will. You are our guardian, so forgive us and have mercy on us. You are the best of forgivers.”
Al-A’raf 7:156
ۚ ۖ ۚ
Prescribe good for us in this world and in the Hereafter; we have turned to You. He said, “My punishment—I afflict with it whomever I will, and My mercy encompasses everything. I will prescribe it for those who are mindful, give zakat, and believe in Our signs.”
Al-A’raf 7:157
ۚ ۙ
Those who follow the Messenger, the ummī Prophet, whom they find written with them in the Torah and the Gospel. He commands them to what is right, forbids them what is wrong, makes good things lawful for them and impure things unlawful, and removes their burden and the shackles that were upon them. Those who believe in him, support him, help him, and follow the light sent down with him are the successful.
Al-A’raf 7:158
ۖ ۖ
Say, “People, I am the messenger of The God to you all, the One to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no god except Him; He gives life and causes death. Believe in The God and His Messenger, the ummī Prophet who believes in The God and His words, and follow him so that you may be guided.”
Al-A’raf 7:159
Among the people of Moses is a community that guides by the truth and acts justly by it.
Al-A’raf 7:160
ۚ ۖ ۖ ۚ ۖ ۚ
We divided them into twelve tribes, communities. We revealed to Moses, when his people asked him for water, “Strike the rock with your staff.” Twelve springs gushed from it; each group knew its drinking place. We shaded them with clouds and sent down manna and quails to them: “Eat of the good things We have provided you.” They did not wrong Us, but they were wronging themselves.
Al-A’raf 7:161
ۚ
When it was said to them, “Dwell in this town and eat from it wherever you wish, say, ‘A lowering of the burden,’ and enter the gate in prostration. We will forgive your errors and increase the doers of good.”
Al-A’raf 7:162
Those among them who did wrong substituted a saying other than what they had been told, so We sent an affliction upon them from heaven for their wrongdoing.
Al-A’raf 7:163
ۙ ۚ
Ask them about the town by the sea, when they transgressed on the Sabbath: their fish came openly to them on their Sabbath day, but on the day they did not keep Sabbath, they did not come. Thus We tested them because of their disobedience.
Al-A’raf 7:164
ۙ ۖ
When a community among them said, “Why do you admonish people whom The God will destroy or punish severely?” They said, “As an excuse before your Lord, and so that they may be mindful.”
Al-A’raf 7:165
When they forgot what they had been reminded of, We saved those who forbade evil and seized those who did wrong with a terrible punishment for their disobedience.
Al-A’raf 7:166
When they defiantly persisted in what they had been forbidden, We said to them, “Be apes, despised.”
Al-A’raf 7:167
ۗ ۖ
When your Lord declared that He would send against them, until the Day of Resurrection, those who would subject them to terrible punishment. Your Lord is swift in punishment, and He is Forgiving, Merciful.
Al-A’raf 7:168
ۖ ۖ
We dispersed them on the earth as communities. Among them are the righteous, and among them are those short of that. We tested them with good things and bad, so that they might return.
Al-A’raf 7:169
ۚ ۗ ۗ
Successors came after them who inherited the Book, taking the goods of this lower life and saying, “We will be forgiven.” If similar goods came to them, they would take them too. Was the covenant of the Book not taken from them, that they say nothing about The God except the truth? They have studied what is in it. The abode of the Hereafter is better for those who are mindful. Will you not reason?
Al-A’raf 7:170
Those who hold firmly to the Book and establish prayer—We do not let the reward of those who set things right go to waste.
Al-A’raf 7:171
When We raised the mountain above them as though it were a canopy, and they thought it would fall upon them: “Take what We have given you firmly and remember what is in it, so that you may be mindful.”
Al-A’raf 7:172
ۖ ۛ ۛ
When your Lord took from the Children of Adam, from their backs, their descendants, and made them testify concerning themselves: “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we testify.” Lest you say on the Day of Resurrection, “We were unaware of this.”
Al-A’raf 7:173
ۖ
Or say, “Our fathers associated partners before us, and we were descendants after them. Will You destroy us for what the followers of falsehood did?”
Al-A’raf 7:174
Thus We explain the signs in detail, and so that they may return.
Al-A’raf 7:175
Recite to them the news of the one to whom We gave Our signs, who then cast them off. Satan pursued him, and he became one of those who went astray.
Al-A’raf 7:176
ۚ ۚ ۚ
Had We willed, We would have raised him through them, but he clung to the earth and followed his desire. His likeness is that of a dog: if you drive it away, it pants, and if you leave it, it pants. That is the likeness of the people who deny Our signs. Relate the account, so that they may reflect.
Al-A’raf 7:177
Evil is the likeness of the people who deny Our signs and wrong themselves.
Al-A’raf 7:178
ۖ
Whomever The God guides is the guided one. Whomever He leads astray—those are the losers.
Al-A’raf 7:179
ۖ ۚ ۚ
We have brought forth for Hell many of the jinn and humans. They have hearts with which they do not understand, eyes with which they do not see, and ears with which they do not hear. They are like livestock, but more astray. They are the heedless.
Al-A’raf 7:180
ۖ ۚ
The finest names belong to The God, so call upon Him by them. Leave those who deviate concerning His names; they will be repaid for what they used to do.
Al-A’raf 7:181
Among those We have created is a community that guides by the truth and acts justly by it.
Al-A’raf 7:182
Those who deny Our signs—We will draw them on step by step from where they do not know.
Al-A’raf 7:183
ۚ
I grant them respite. My plan is firm.
Al-A’raf 7:184
ۗ ۚ
Have they not reflected? There is no madness in their companion. He is only a clear warner.
Al-A’raf 7:185
ۖ
Have they not looked into the dominion of the heavens and the earth, everything The God has created, and the possibility that their term may have drawn near? In what discourse after this will they believe?
Al-A’raf 7:186
ۚ
Whomever The God leads astray has no guide. He leaves them wandering blindly in their transgression.
Al-A’raf 7:187
ۖ ۖ ۚ ۚ ۗ ۖ
They ask you about the Hour: when will it arrive? Say, “Knowledge of it is only with my Lord. None but Him will reveal it at its time. It weighs heavily in the heavens and the earth. It will come upon you only suddenly.” They ask you as though you were fully acquainted with it. Say, “Knowledge of it is only with The God, but most people do not know.”
Al-A’raf 7:188
ۚ ۚ
Say, “I possess no benefit or harm for myself except as The God wills. Had I known the unseen, I would have acquired much good, and no evil would have touched me. I am only a warner and a bearer of good news for people who believe.”
Al-A’raf 7:189
ۖ ۖ
He is the One who created you from a single soul and made from it its mate, so that he might find rest with her. When he covered her, she bore a light burden and went about with it. When she grew heavy, they called upon The God, their Lord: “If You give us a sound one, we will surely be among the grateful.”
Al-A’raf 7:190
ۚ
When He gave them a sound one, they assigned partners to Him in what He had given them. Exalted is The God above what they associate as partners.
Al-A’raf 7:191
Do they associate those who create nothing and are themselves created?
Al-A’raf 7:192
They cannot help them, nor can they help themselves.
Al-A’raf 7:193
ۚ
If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same for you whether you call them or remain silent.
Al-A’raf 7:194
ۖ
Those you call upon apart from The God are servants like you. Call upon them, then, and let them answer you, if you are truthful.
Al-A’raf 7:195
ۖ ۖ ۖ ۗ
Do they have feet with which they walk, hands with which they grasp, eyes with which they see, or ears with which they hear? Say, “Call your partners, then scheme against me and give me no respite.”
Al-A’raf 7:196
ۖ
My guardian is The God, who sent down the Book. He takes care of the righteous.
Al-A’raf 7:197
Those you call upon apart from Him cannot help you, nor can they help themselves.
Al-A’raf 7:198
ۖ
If you call them to guidance, they do not hear. You see them looking at you, but they do not see.
Al-A’raf 7:199
Take to pardon, command what is right, and turn away from the ignorant.
Al-A’raf 7:200
ۚ
If an incitement from Satan provokes you, seek refuge in The God. He is Hearing, Knowing.
Al-A’raf 7:201
Those who are mindful, when a passing impulse from Satan touches them, remember, and then they see clearly.
Al-A’raf 7:202
Their brothers draw them further into error, then do not relent.
Al-A’raf 7:203
ۚ ۚ
When you do not bring them a sign, they say, “Why did you not select it yourself?” Say, “I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord.” These are insights from your Lord, and guidance and mercy for people who believe.
Al-A’raf 7:204
When the Qur’an is recited, listen to it and be silent, so that you may receive mercy.
Al-A’raf 7:205
Remember your Lord within yourself, humbly and fearfully, without loud speech, in the mornings and evenings, and do not be among the heedless.
Al-A’raf 7:206
۩
Those who are with your Lord are not too proud to worship Him. They glorify Him and prostrate themselves to Him.
