In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Ta-Ha 20:1
Ta, Ha.
Ta-Ha 20:2
We did not send down the Qur’an upon you to make you suffer,
Ta-Ha 20:3
but as a reminder for one who fears,
Ta-Ha 20:4
a revelation from the One who created the earth and the lofty heavens.
Ta-Ha 20:5
The Entirely Merciful established Himself upon the Throne.
Ta-Ha 20:6
To Him belongs what is in the heavens, what is on the earth, what is between them, and what is beneath the soil.
Ta-Ha 20:7
If you speak aloud, He knows the secret and what is more hidden.
Ta-Ha 20:8
ۖ
The God—there is no god but Him. To Him belong the most beautiful names.
Ta-Ha 20:9
Has the account of Moses reached you?
Ta-Ha 20:10
When he saw a fire, he said to his family, “Stay here. I have seen a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a burning brand from it or find guidance at the fire.”
Ta-Ha 20:11
When he came to it, he was called, “Moses,
Ta-Ha 20:12
ۖ
I am your Lord. Remove your sandals; you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.
Ta-Ha 20:13
I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed.
Ta-Ha 20:14
I am The God. There is no god but Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
Ta-Ha 20:15
The Hour is coming—I almost conceal it—so that every soul may be recompensed for what it strives for.
Ta-Ha 20:16
Do not let one who does not believe in it and follows his desire turn you away from it, lest you perish.
Ta-Ha 20:17
What is that in your right hand, Moses?”
Ta-Ha 20:18
He said, “It is my staff. I lean on it, beat down leaves with it for my sheep, and have other uses for it.”
Ta-Ha 20:19
He said, “Throw it down, Moses.”
Ta-Ha 20:20
He threw it down, and suddenly it was a snake moving swiftly.
Ta-Ha 20:21
ۖ
He said, “Take it and do not fear. We will restore it to its former state.
Ta-Ha 20:22
Draw your hand to your side; it will come out white, without harm, as another sign,
Ta-Ha 20:23
so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs.
Ta-Ha 20:24
Go to Pharaoh. He has transgressed.”
Ta-Ha 20:25
He said, “My Lord, expand my breast for me,
Ta-Ha 20:26
and ease my task for me,
Ta-Ha 20:27
and loosen a knot from my tongue,
Ta-Ha 20:28
so that they may understand my speech.
Ta-Ha 20:29
Appoint a helper for me from my family,
Ta-Ha 20:30
Aaron, my brother.
Ta-Ha 20:31
Strengthen my back through him,
Ta-Ha 20:32
and let him share in my task,
Ta-Ha 20:33
so that we may glorify You much,
Ta-Ha 20:34
and remember You much.
Ta-Ha 20:35
You have always seen us.”
Ta-Ha 20:36
He said, “You have been granted your request, Moses.
Ta-Ha 20:37
We had already bestowed favor upon you another time,
Ta-Ha 20:38
when We revealed to your mother what was revealed:
Ta-Ha 20:39
ۚ
‘Put him in the chest and cast it into the river. Let the river cast him onto the shore, where an enemy of Mine and his will take him.’ I cast love from Me upon you, so that you would be brought up under My eye.
Ta-Ha 20:40
ۖ ۚ ۚ
When your sister walked along and said, ‘Shall I direct you to someone who will care for him?’ We returned you to your mother so that she would be comforted and not grieve. You killed a person, and We delivered you from distress and tested you with trials. You remained for years among the people of Midian, then came at the appointed time, Moses.
Ta-Ha 20:41
I have fashioned you for Myself.
Ta-Ha 20:42
Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not slacken in remembering Me.
Ta-Ha 20:43
Go to Pharaoh. He has transgressed.
Ta-Ha 20:44
Speak gently to him, so that he may take heed or fear.”
Ta-Ha 20:45
They said, “Our Lord, we fear that he will act hastily against us or transgress.”
Ta-Ha 20:46
ۖ
He said, “Do not fear. I am with you both; I hear and see.
Ta-Ha 20:47
ۖ ۖ
Go to him and say, ‘We are two messengers of your Lord. Send the children of Israel with us and do not torment them. We have brought you a sign from your Lord. Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance.
Ta-Ha 20:48
It has been revealed to us that punishment is upon whoever denies and turns away.’”
Ta-Ha 20:49
He said, “Who, then, is the Lord of you two, Moses?”
Ta-Ha 20:50
He said, “Our Lord is the One who gave everything its creation, then guided it.”
Ta-Ha 20:51
He said, “What, then, of the former generations?”
Ta-Ha 20:52
ۖ
He said, “Knowledge of them is with my Lord in a book. My Lord neither errs nor forgets.”
Ta-Ha 20:53
The One who made the earth a bed for you, laid out paths for you in it, and sent down water from the sky. With it We brought forth diverse kinds of plants.
Ta-Ha 20:54
ۗ
Eat and pasture your livestock. In this are signs for those of understanding.
Ta-Ha 20:55
From it We created you, into it We return you, and from it We will bring you forth another time.
Ta-Ha 20:56
We showed him all Our signs, but he denied and refused.
Ta-Ha 20:57
He said, “Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, Moses?
Ta-Ha 20:58
We will bring you magic like it. Appoint a meeting between us and you that neither we nor you will fail to keep, in an equal place.”
Ta-Ha 20:59
He said, “Your appointment is on the day of adornment, and let the people be gathered in the morning light.”
Ta-Ha 20:60
Pharaoh withdrew, assembled his scheme, then came.
Ta-Ha 20:61
ۖ
Moses said to them, “Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against The God, lest He destroy you with punishment. Whoever invents a lie has failed.”
Ta-Ha 20:62
They disputed their affair among themselves and kept their private conversation secret.
Ta-Ha 20:63
They said, “These two are magicians who want to drive you from your land with their magic and take away your finest way.
Ta-Ha 20:64
ۚ
Unite your scheme, then come in ranks. Whoever gains the upper hand today will succeed.”
Ta-Ha 20:65
They said, “Moses, either you throw, or we will be the first to throw.”
Ta-Ha 20:66
ۖ
He said, “Rather, you throw.” Suddenly their ropes and staffs appeared to him, through their magic, to be moving swiftly.
Ta-Ha 20:67
Moses felt fear within himself.
Ta-Ha 20:68
We said, “Do not fear. You have the upper hand.
Ta-Ha 20:69
ۖ ۖ
Throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow what they have made. What they have made is only a magician’s trick. A magician does not succeed wherever he comes.”
Ta-Ha 20:70
The magicians fell down in prostration. They said, “We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.”
Ta-Ha 20:71
ۖ ۖ
He said, “You believed him before I gave you permission? He must be your chief who taught you magic. I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you on palm trunks. You will know which of us is more severe and lasting in punishment.”
Ta-Ha 20:72
ۖ ۖ
They said, “We will never prefer you over the clear signs that have come to us and the One who originated us. Decree whatever you decree; you decree only in this worldly life.
Ta-Ha 20:73
ۗ
We have believed in our Lord so that He may forgive our sins and the magic you forced us to perform. The God is better and more lasting.”
Ta-Ha 20:74
Whoever comes to his Lord guilty will have Hell, where he neither dies nor lives.
Ta-Ha 20:75
Whoever comes to Him believing, having done righteous deeds, will have the highest degrees:
Ta-Ha 20:76
ۚ
gardens of lasting abode with rivers flowing beneath them, remaining there forever. That is the reward of one who purifies himself.
Ta-Ha 20:77
We revealed to Moses, “Travel by night with My servants and strike a dry path for them through the sea. You will not fear being overtaken, nor be afraid.”
Ta-Ha 20:78
Pharaoh pursued them with his troops, and the sea overwhelmed them with what overwhelmed them.
Ta-Ha 20:79
Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide them.
Ta-Ha 20:80
Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, made an appointment with you on the right side of the Mount, and sent down manna and quails upon you.
Ta-Ha 20:81
ۖ
Eat of the good things We have provided you, and do not transgress in them, lest My anger descend upon you. Whoever My anger descends upon has fallen.
Ta-Ha 20:82
I am greatly forgiving toward whoever repents, believes, and acts righteously, then follows guidance.
Ta-Ha 20:83
“What made you hasten ahead of your people, Moses?”
Ta-Ha 20:84
He said, “They are following my footsteps. I hastened to You, my Lord, so that You might be pleased.”
Ta-Ha 20:85
He said, “We have tested your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray.”
Ta-Ha 20:86
ۚ ۚ
Moses returned to his people angry and sorrowful. He said, “My people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Did the time seem long to you, or did you want anger from your Lord to descend upon you, so that you broke your promise to me?”
Ta-Ha 20:87
They said, “We did not break our promise to you by our own choice. We were made to carry burdens of the people’s ornaments, and we threw them down. The Samiri threw likewise.”
Ta-Ha 20:88
He brought out for them a calf, a body with a lowing sound. They said, “This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot.”
Ta-Ha 20:89
Do they not see that it returns no word to them and has no power to harm or benefit them?
Ta-Ha 20:90
ۖ
Aaron had already told them, “My people, you are only being tested by it. Your Lord is the Entirely Merciful. Follow me and obey my command.”
Ta-Ha 20:91
They said, “We will not cease our devotion to it until Moses returns to us.”
Ta-Ha 20:92
He said, “Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them go astray,
Ta-Ha 20:93
ۖ
from following me? Did you disobey my command?”
Ta-Ha 20:94
ۖ
He said, “Son of my mother, do not seize my beard or my head. I feared you would say, ‘You divided the children of Israel and did not heed my word.’”
Ta-Ha 20:95
He said, “What is your affair, Samiri?”
Ta-Ha 20:96
He said, “I saw what they did not see. I took a handful from the messenger’s trace and cast it away. Thus my soul enticed me.”
Ta-Ha 20:97
ۖ ۖ ۖ
He said, “Go! In this life you will say, ‘No touching.’ You have an appointment that will not be broken. Look at your god to which you remained devoted: we will burn it, then scatter it into the sea.
Ta-Ha 20:98
ۚ
Your god is only The God, besides whom there is no god. He encompasses everything in knowledge.”
Ta-Ha 20:99
ۚ
In this way We relate to you some accounts of what has passed. We have given you a reminder from Us.
Ta-Ha 20:100
Whoever turns away from it will bear a burden on the Day of Resurrection,
Ta-Ha 20:101
ۖ
remaining in it forever. What an evil load for them on the Day of Resurrection!
Ta-Ha 20:102
ۚ
On the day the trumpet is blown, We will gather the guilty that day, blue-eyed.
Ta-Ha 20:103
They will whisper among themselves, “You remained only ten.”
Ta-Ha 20:104
We know best what they say, when the best of them in judgment says, “You remained only a day.”
Ta-Ha 20:105
They ask you about the mountains. Say, “My Lord will scatter them utterly,
Ta-Ha 20:106
and leave it a level plain,
Ta-Ha 20:107
in which you will see neither crookedness nor elevation.”
Ta-Ha 20:108
ۖ
That day they will follow the caller, with no deviation from him. Voices will be humbled before the Entirely Merciful, and you will hear only a faint sound.
Ta-Ha 20:109
That day intercession will not benefit, except for one whom the Entirely Merciful permits and whose word He approves.
Ta-Ha 20:110
He knows what is before them and what is behind them, but they do not encompass Him in knowledge.
Ta-Ha 20:111
ۖ
Faces will be humbled before the Living, the Self-Sustaining. Whoever bears wrongdoing has failed.
Ta-Ha 20:112
Whoever does righteous deeds while a believer will fear neither injustice nor deprivation.
Ta-Ha 20:113
In this way We sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an and varied the warnings in it, so that they may be mindful or it may bring them remembrance.
Ta-Ha 20:114
ۗ ۖ
Exalted is The God, the True Sovereign. Do not hasten with the Qur’an before its revelation to you is completed, and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”
Ta-Ha 20:115
We had made a covenant with Adam before, but he forgot, and We found no firm resolve in him.
Ta-Ha 20:116
When We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” they prostrated, except Iblis, who refused.
Ta-Ha 20:117
We said, “Adam, this is an enemy to you and your spouse. Do not let him drive you both out of the Garden, so that you suffer.
Ta-Ha 20:118
There you will neither hunger nor be naked,
Ta-Ha 20:119
nor be thirsty there or suffer the sun’s heat.”
Ta-Ha 20:120
Satan whispered to him, saying, “Adam, shall I guide you to the tree of eternity and a kingdom that never decays?”
Ta-Ha 20:121
ۚ
They both ate from it, and their nakedness became apparent to them. They began covering themselves with leaves from the Garden. Adam disobeyed his Lord and went astray.
Ta-Ha 20:122
Then his Lord chose him, turned toward him, and guided him.
Ta-Ha 20:123
ۖ ۖ
He said, “Go down from it, both of you, all together, some of you enemies to others. When guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer.
Ta-Ha 20:124
Whoever turns away from My remembrance will have a constricted life, and We will gather him blind on the Day of Resurrection.”
Ta-Ha 20:125
He will say, “My Lord, why have You gathered me blind when I used to see?”
Ta-Ha 20:126
ۖ
He will say, “So it is. Our signs came to you, but you forgot them. In the same way, today you are forgotten.”
Ta-Ha 20:127
ۚ
In this way We recompense whoever exceeds bounds and does not believe in his Lord’s signs. The punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more lasting.
Ta-Ha 20:128
ۗ
Has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them, whose dwellings they walk through? In this are signs for those of understanding.
Ta-Ha 20:129
Were it not for a word that had already gone forth from your Lord and an appointed term, it would have been inevitable.
Ta-Ha 20:130
ۖ
Be patient with what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise and before sunset. Glorify during hours of the night and at the edges of the day, so that you may be pleased.
Ta-Ha 20:131
ۚ
Do not stretch your eyes toward what We have given some groups of them to enjoy—the bloom of worldly life—so that We may test them through it. Your Lord’s provision is better and more lasting.
Ta-Ha 20:132
ۖ ۖ ۗ
Command your family to prayer and persevere in it. We do not ask you for provision; We provide for you. The final outcome belongs to mindfulness.
Ta-Ha 20:133
ۚ
They say, “Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?” Has clear evidence of what is in the former scriptures not come to them?
Ta-Ha 20:134
Had We destroyed them with punishment before it, they would have said, “Our Lord, why did You not send a messenger to us so that we could follow Your signs before being humbled and disgraced?”
Ta-Ha 20:135
ۖ
Say, “Everyone is waiting, so wait. You will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided.”
