·The Poets·227 Verses

In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:1

Ta, Sin, Mim.

Ash-Shuara 26:2

These are the verses of the clarifying Book.

Ash-Shuara 26:3

Perhaps you would destroy yourself with grief because they do not become believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:4

If We will, We can send down a sign upon them from the sky, before which their necks would remain bowed.

Ash-Shuara 26:5

No fresh reminder comes to them from the Entirely Merciful without their turning away from it.

Ash-Shuara 26:6

They have denied; so the news of what they used to mock will reach them.

Ash-Shuara 26:7

Have they not looked at the earth, how much of every fine kind We have grown in it?

Ash-Shuara 26:8

ۖ

There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:9

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:10

And when your Lord called Moses: Go to the wrongdoing people,

Ash-Shuara 26:11

ۚ

The people of Pharaoh. Will they not be mindful?

Ash-Shuara 26:12

He said: My Lord, I fear they will deny me.

Ash-Shuara 26:13

My chest tightens and my tongue does not speak freely, so send to Aaron.

Ash-Shuara 26:14

And they have a charge against me, so I fear they will kill me.

Ash-Shuara 26:15

ۖ ۖ

He said: No indeed. Go, both of you, with Our signs. We are with you, listening.

Ash-Shuara 26:16

Go to Pharaoh and say: We are the messenger of the Lord of all worlds,

Ash-Shuara 26:17

That you should send the Children of Israel with us.

Ash-Shuara 26:18

He said: Did we not raise you among us as a child, and did you not stay among us for years of your life?

Ash-Shuara 26:19

And you did that deed of yours which you did, and you were among the ungrateful.

Ash-Shuara 26:20

He said: I did it then, when I was among those astray.

Ash-Shuara 26:21

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgment and made me one of the messengers.

Ash-Shuara 26:22

And is this a favor you hold over me, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?

Ash-Shuara 26:23

Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of all worlds?

Ash-Shuara 26:24

ۖ

He said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you have certainty.

Ash-Shuara 26:25

He said to those around him: Do you not hear?

Ash-Shuara 26:26

He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your earliest fathers.

Ash-Shuara 26:27

He said: This messenger of yours who has been sent to you is surely mad.

Ash-Shuara 26:28

ۖ

He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you use reason.

Ash-Shuara 26:29

He said: If you take a god other than me, I will certainly make you one of the prisoners.

Ash-Shuara 26:30

He said: Even if I bring you something clear?

Ash-Shuara 26:31

He said: Then bring it, if you are truthful.

Ash-Shuara 26:32

So he threw down his staff, and there it was, a clear serpent.

Ash-Shuara 26:33

And he drew out his hand, and there it was, white to those watching.

Ash-Shuara 26:34

He said to the chiefs around him: This is surely a knowledgeable sorcerer.

Ash-Shuara 26:35

He wants to drive you out of your land through his sorcery. So what do you advise?

Ash-Shuara 26:36

They said: Give him and his brother time, and send gatherers to the cities,

Ash-Shuara 26:37

To bring you every knowledgeable sorcerer.

Ash-Shuara 26:38

So the sorcerers were gathered for the appointed time of a known day.

Ash-Shuara 26:39

And the people were told: Will you gather,

Ash-Shuara 26:40

So that we may follow the sorcerers if they are the victors?

Ash-Shuara 26:41

When the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh: Will we have a reward if we are the victors?

Ash-Shuara 26:42

He said: Yes, and then you will certainly be among those brought near.

Ash-Shuara 26:43

Moses said to them: Throw whatever you are going to throw.

Ash-Shuara 26:44

So they threw their ropes and staffs and said: By Pharaoh’s might, we will surely be the victors.

Ash-Shuara 26:45

Then Moses threw his staff, and it began swallowing what they fabricated.

Ash-Shuara 26:46

Then the sorcerers fell down in prostration.

Ash-Shuara 26:47

They said: We believe in the Lord of all worlds,

Ash-Shuara 26:48

The Lord of Moses and Aaron.

Ash-Shuara 26:49

ۖ ۚ

He said: You believed in him before I gave you permission? He is surely your chief who taught you sorcery. You will soon know. I will certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and crucify you all.

Ash-Shuara 26:50

ۖ

They said: No harm. We are returning to our Lord.

Ash-Shuara 26:51

We hope that our Lord will forgive our faults, since we were the first believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:52

And We revealed to Moses: Travel by night with My servants; you will be pursued.

Ash-Shuara 26:53

Then Pharaoh sent gatherers to the cities.

Ash-Shuara 26:54

These are but a small band,

Ash-Shuara 26:55

And they have enraged us,

Ash-Shuara 26:56

And we are all on our guard.

Ash-Shuara 26:57

So We brought them out of gardens and springs,

Ash-Shuara 26:58

And treasures and an honorable station.

Ash-Shuara 26:59

Thus it was; and We gave them as an inheritance to the Children of Israel.

Ash-Shuara 26:60

Then they pursued them at sunrise.

Ash-Shuara 26:61

When the two groups saw each other, Moses’ companions said: We will surely be overtaken.

Ash-Shuara 26:62

ۖ

He said: No indeed. My Lord is with me; He will guide me.

Ash-Shuara 26:63

ۖ

Then We revealed to Moses: Strike the sea with your staff. So it split, and each part was like a great mountain.

Ash-Shuara 26:64

And We brought the others near there.

Ash-Shuara 26:65

And We saved Moses and all those with him.

Ash-Shuara 26:66

Then We drowned the others.

Ash-Shuara 26:67

ۖ

There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:68

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:69

And recite to them the account of Abraham.

Ash-Shuara 26:70

When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship?

Ash-Shuara 26:71

They said: We worship idols and remain devoted to them.

Ash-Shuara 26:72

He said: Do they hear you when you call,

Ash-Shuara 26:73

Or benefit you or harm you?

Ash-Shuara 26:74

They said: Rather, we found our fathers doing so.

Ash-Shuara 26:75

He said: Have you considered what you have been worshipping,

Ash-Shuara 26:76

You and your earliest fathers?

Ash-Shuara 26:77

They are enemies to me, except the Lord of all worlds,

Ash-Shuara 26:78

Who created me, and He guides me,

Ash-Shuara 26:79

And who feeds me and gives me drink,

Ash-Shuara 26:80

And when I become ill, He heals me,

Ash-Shuara 26:81

And who causes me to die, then brings me to life,

Ash-Shuara 26:82

And who I hope will forgive my fault on the Day of Recompense.

Ash-Shuara 26:83

My Lord, grant me judgment and join me with the righteous.

Ash-Shuara 26:84

And grant me a truthful reputation among later generations.

Ash-Shuara 26:85

And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss.

Ash-Shuara 26:86

And forgive my father; he was among those astray.

Ash-Shuara 26:87

And do not disgrace me on the day they are raised,

Ash-Shuara 26:88

The day when neither wealth nor sons will benefit,

Ash-Shuara 26:89

Except one who comes to The God with a sound heart.

Ash-Shuara 26:90

And the Garden is brought near to the mindful,

Ash-Shuara 26:91

And the blazing Fire is exposed to those astray,

Ash-Shuara 26:92

And they are told: Where is what you used to worship,

Ash-Shuara 26:93

Apart from The God? Do they help you, or help themselves?

Ash-Shuara 26:94

Then they are tumbled into it, they and those astray,

Ash-Shuara 26:95

And the soldiers of Iblis, all together.

Ash-Shuara 26:96

They say, as they dispute within it:

Ash-Shuara 26:97

By The God, we were in clear error,

Ash-Shuara 26:98

When we equated you with the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:99

And none but the guilty led us astray.

Ash-Shuara 26:100

So we have no intercessors,

Ash-Shuara 26:101

Nor a close friend.

Ash-Shuara 26:102

If only we had a return, so that we could be among the believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:103

ۖ

There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:104

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:105

The people of Noah denied the messengers.

Ash-Shuara 26:106

When their brother Noah said to them: Will you not be mindful?

Ash-Shuara 26:107

I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

Ash-Shuara 26:108

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:109

ۖ

And I ask you for no payment for it. My payment rests only with the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:110

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:111

They said: Should we believe you when the lowliest have followed you?

Ash-Shuara 26:112

He said: What do I know of what they used to do?

Ash-Shuara 26:113

ۖ

Their account rests only with my Lord, if you perceive.

Ash-Shuara 26:114

And I will not drive away the believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:115

I am only a clear warner.

Ash-Shuara 26:116

They said: Noah, if you do not desist, you will surely be among those stoned.

Ash-Shuara 26:117

He said: My Lord, my people have denied me.

Ash-Shuara 26:118

So judge decisively between me and them, and save me and the believers with me.

Ash-Shuara 26:119

So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.

Ash-Shuara 26:120

Then afterward We drowned those who remained.

Ash-Shuara 26:121

ۖ

There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:122

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:123

Aad denied the messengers.

Ash-Shuara 26:124

When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not be mindful?

Ash-Shuara 26:125

I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

Ash-Shuara 26:126

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:127

ۖ

And I ask you for no payment for it. My payment rests only with the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:128

Do you build a monument on every height, amusing yourselves?

Ash-Shuara 26:129

And do you take strong constructions, hoping to live forever?

Ash-Shuara 26:130

And when you seize, you seize as tyrants.

Ash-Shuara 26:131

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:132

And be mindful of the One who supplied you with what you know,

Ash-Shuara 26:133

Supplied you with livestock and sons,

Ash-Shuara 26:134

And gardens and springs.

Ash-Shuara 26:135

I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.

Ash-Shuara 26:136

They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not among those who admonish.

Ash-Shuara 26:137

This is only the practice of the earlier peoples.

Ash-Shuara 26:138

And we will not be punished.

Ash-Shuara 26:139

ۗ ۖ

So they denied him, and We destroyed them. There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:140

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:141

Thamud denied the messengers.

Ash-Shuara 26:142

When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not be mindful?

Ash-Shuara 26:143

I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

Ash-Shuara 26:144

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:145

ۖ

And I ask you for no payment for it. My payment rests only with the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:146

Will you be left secure in what is here,

Ash-Shuara 26:147

In gardens and springs,

Ash-Shuara 26:148

And crops and date palms whose spathes are tender?

Ash-Shuara 26:149

And you skillfully carve houses out of the mountains.

Ash-Shuara 26:150

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:151

And do not obey the command of the excessive,

Ash-Shuara 26:152

Who spread corruption in the earth and do not set things right.

Ash-Shuara 26:153

They said: You are merely one of those bewitched.

Ash-Shuara 26:154

You are only a human like us. So bring a sign if you are truthful.

Ash-Shuara 26:155

He said: This is a she-camel. She has a share of water, and you have a share of water on a known day.

Ash-Shuara 26:156

And do not touch her with harm, or the punishment of a tremendous day will seize you.

Ash-Shuara 26:157

Then they hamstrung her and became regretful.

Ash-Shuara 26:158

ۗ ۖ

So the punishment seized them. There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:159

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:160

The people of Lot denied the messengers.

Ash-Shuara 26:161

When their brother Lot said to them: Will you not be mindful?

Ash-Shuara 26:162

I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

Ash-Shuara 26:163

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:164

ۖ

And I ask you for no payment for it. My payment rests only with the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:165

Do you approach males among all peoples,

Ash-Shuara 26:166

ۚ

And leave what your Lord created for you of your spouses? Rather, you are a transgressing people.

Ash-Shuara 26:167

They said: Lot, if you do not desist, you will surely be among those expelled.

Ash-Shuara 26:168

He said: I am among those who detest your conduct.

Ash-Shuara 26:169

My Lord, save me and my family from what they do.

Ash-Shuara 26:170

So We saved him and his family, all together,

Ash-Shuara 26:171

Except an old woman among those who remained.

Ash-Shuara 26:172

Then We destroyed the others.

Ash-Shuara 26:173

ۖ

And We rained a rain upon them. How evil was the rain of those who had been warned.

Ash-Shuara 26:174

ۖ

There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:175

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:176

The people of the thicket denied the messengers.

Ash-Shuara 26:177

When Shuayb said to them: Will you not be mindful?

Ash-Shuara 26:178

I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

Ash-Shuara 26:179

So be mindful of The God and obey me.

Ash-Shuara 26:180

ۖ

And I ask you for no payment for it. My payment rests only with the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:181

Give full measure and do not be among those who give less.

Ash-Shuara 26:182

And weigh with a straight balance.

Ash-Shuara 26:183

And do not deprive people of their things, or act corruptly in the earth, spreading disorder.

Ash-Shuara 26:184

And be mindful of the One who created you and the earlier generations.

Ash-Shuara 26:185

They said: You are merely one of those bewitched.

Ash-Shuara 26:186

You are only a human like us, and we think you are among the liars.

Ash-Shuara 26:187

So make fragments of the sky fall upon us, if you are truthful.

Ash-Shuara 26:188

He said: My Lord knows best what you do.

Ash-Shuara 26:189

ۚ

So they denied him, and the punishment of the day of the canopy seized them. It was indeed the punishment of a tremendous day.

Ash-Shuara 26:190

ۖ

There is indeed a sign in this; yet most of them were not believers.

Ash-Shuara 26:191

And indeed your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.

Ash-Shuara 26:192

And it is indeed a revelation from the Lord of all worlds.

Ash-Shuara 26:193

The trustworthy Spirit brought it down,

Ash-Shuara 26:194

Upon your heart, so that you may be among the warners,

Ash-Shuara 26:195

In a clear Arabic tongue.

Ash-Shuara 26:196

And it is indeed in the scriptures of the earlier peoples.

Ash-Shuara 26:197

Was it not a sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?

Ash-Shuara 26:198

And had We sent it down upon one of the non-Arabic speakers,

Ash-Shuara 26:199

And he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it.

Ash-Shuara 26:200

Thus We passed it into the hearts of the guilty.

Ash-Shuara 26:201

They do not believe in it until they see the painful punishment,

Ash-Shuara 26:202

Then it comes upon them suddenly, while they are unaware,

Ash-Shuara 26:203

And they say: Will we be given time?

Ash-Shuara 26:204

Do they then seek to hasten Our punishment?

Ash-Shuara 26:205

Have you considered, if We let them enjoy themselves for years,

Ash-Shuara 26:206

Then what they were promised comes upon them,

Ash-Shuara 26:207

What they were allowed to enjoy will not avail them.

Ash-Shuara 26:208

And We destroyed no settlement without its having warners,

Ash-Shuara 26:209

As a reminder; and We were not unjust.

Ash-Shuara 26:210

And the devils did not bring it down.

Ash-Shuara 26:211

It does not befit them, nor are they able.

Ash-Shuara 26:212

They are indeed kept away from hearing.

Ash-Shuara 26:213

So do not call upon another god alongside The God, or you will be among those punished.

Ash-Shuara 26:214

And warn your nearest kin.

Ash-Shuara 26:215

And lower your wing to the believers who follow you.

Ash-Shuara 26:216

Then if they disobey you, say: I am free of what you do.

Ash-Shuara 26:217

And rely upon the Mighty, the Merciful,

Ash-Shuara 26:218

Who sees you when you stand,

Ash-Shuara 26:219

And your movements among those who prostrate.

Ash-Shuara 26:220

He is indeed the Hearing, the Knowing.

Ash-Shuara 26:221

Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend?

Ash-Shuara 26:222

They descend upon every sinful liar.

Ash-Shuara 26:223

They lend an ear, and most of them are liars.

Ash-Shuara 26:224

And the poets are followed by those astray.

Ash-Shuara 26:225

Have you not seen that they wander in every valley,

Ash-Shuara 26:226

And that they say what they do not do?

Ash-Shuara 26:227

ۗ

Except those who believe, do righteous deeds, remember The God often, and defend themselves after being wronged. And those who do wrong will soon know to what place of return they will return.
