As-Saffat 37:1

By those ranged in rows,

As-Saffat 37:2

then those restraining with restraint,

As-Saffat 37:3

then those reciting a reminder:

As-Saffat 37:4

indeed, your god is One,

As-Saffat 37:5

Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and Lord of the places of sunrise.

As-Saffat 37:6

We adorned the nearest heaven with the adornment of the stars,

As-Saffat 37:7

and as protection against every rebellious devil.

As-Saffat 37:8

They cannot listen to the highest assembly and are pelted from every side,

As-Saffat 37:9

ۖ

driven away; and theirs is a lasting punishment,

As-Saffat 37:10

except one who snatches a fragment, then a piercing flame pursues him.

As-Saffat 37:11

ۚ

So ask them: Are they harder to create, or those We have created? We created them from sticky clay.

As-Saffat 37:12

Rather, you marvel, while they mock.

As-Saffat 37:13

And when reminded, they do not take heed.

As-Saffat 37:14

And when they see a sign, they turn to ridicule.

As-Saffat 37:15

And they said, “This is nothing but evident magic.

As-Saffat 37:16

When we have died and become dust and bones, will we really be raised,

As-Saffat 37:17

and our earlier forefathers too?”

As-Saffat 37:18

Say, “Yes, while you are humbled.”

As-Saffat 37:19

It is only a single shout, and suddenly they are looking.

As-Saffat 37:20

And they said, “Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense.”

As-Saffat 37:21

This is the Day of Separation that you used to deny.

As-Saffat 37:22

Gather those who wronged, their counterparts, and what they used to worship

As-Saffat 37:23

apart from The God, and guide them to the path of the Blaze.

As-Saffat 37:24

ۖ

And stop them; they are to be questioned.

As-Saffat 37:25

What is the matter with you that you do not help one another?

As-Saffat 37:26

Rather, today they are surrendered.

As-Saffat 37:27

And they turned to one another, questioning each other.

As-Saffat 37:28

They said, “You used to come to us from the right.”

As-Saffat 37:29

They said, “Rather, you were not believers.

As-Saffat 37:30

ۖ

And we had no authority over you; rather, you were a transgressing people.

As-Saffat 37:31

ۖ

So our Lord’s word has come true against us; we will surely taste.

As-Saffat 37:32

We led you astray; we ourselves were astray.”

As-Saffat 37:33

So that day they share in the punishment.

As-Saffat 37:34

This is how We deal with the guilty.

As-Saffat 37:35

When they were told, “There is no god except The God,” they acted arrogantly

As-Saffat 37:36

and said, “Are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?”

As-Saffat 37:37

Rather, he brought the truth and confirmed the messengers.

As-Saffat 37:38

You will surely taste the painful punishment.

As-Saffat 37:39

And you are repaid only for what you used to do,

As-Saffat 37:40

except the purified servants of The God.

As-Saffat 37:41

For them is a known provision:

As-Saffat 37:42

ۖ

fruits; and they are honored

As-Saffat 37:43

in gardens of bliss,

As-Saffat 37:44

on couches, facing one another.

As-Saffat 37:45

A cup from a flowing spring is passed around them,

As-Saffat 37:46

white, delightful to those who drink.

As-Saffat 37:47

There is no harm in it, nor are they intoxicated by it.

As-Saffat 37:48

And with them are women with restrained gazes and large eyes,

As-Saffat 37:49

as though they were sheltered eggs.

As-Saffat 37:50

Then they turned to one another, questioning each other.

As-Saffat 37:51

One of them said, “I had a companion

As-Saffat 37:52

who would say, ‘Are you really among those who affirm this?

As-Saffat 37:53

When we have died and become dust and bones, will we really be repaid?’”

As-Saffat 37:54

He said, “Will you look?”

As-Saffat 37:55

Then he looked and saw him in the midst of the Blaze.

As-Saffat 37:56

He said, “By The God, you nearly brought me to ruin.

As-Saffat 37:57

Had it not been for my Lord’s favor, I would have been among those brought forth.

As-Saffat 37:58

Are we then not to die,

As-Saffat 37:59

except our first death, and are we not to be punished?”

As-Saffat 37:60

This is indeed the great triumph.

As-Saffat 37:61

For something like this, let those who work do their work.

As-Saffat 37:62

Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum?

As-Saffat 37:63

We made it a trial for the wrongdoers.

As-Saffat 37:64

It is a tree that emerges from the bottom of the Blaze.

As-Saffat 37:65

Its emerging fruit is like the heads of devils.

As-Saffat 37:66

They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it.

As-Saffat 37:67

Then, on top of it, they will have a mixture of scalding water.

As-Saffat 37:68

Then their return is to the Blaze.

As-Saffat 37:69

They found their forefathers astray,

As-Saffat 37:70

so they rush along in their footsteps.

As-Saffat 37:71

And before them, most of the earlier peoples went astray.

As-Saffat 37:72

And We sent warners among them.

As-Saffat 37:73

So see how the outcome was for those who were warned,

As-Saffat 37:74

except the purified servants of The God.

As-Saffat 37:75

And Noah called to Us; how excellent We are at answering!

As-Saffat 37:76

And We rescued him and his family from the great distress.

As-Saffat 37:77

And We made his descendants the survivors.

As-Saffat 37:78

And We left for him among later generations:

As-Saffat 37:79

“Peace upon Noah among all peoples.”

As-Saffat 37:80

This is how We reward those who do good.

As-Saffat 37:81

He was among Our believing servants.

As-Saffat 37:82

Then We drowned the others.

As-Saffat 37:83

And Abraham was among his followers,

As-Saffat 37:84

when he came to his Lord with a sound heart.

As-Saffat 37:85

When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?

As-Saffat 37:86

Do you desire, as a falsehood, gods apart from The God?

As-Saffat 37:87

Then what do you think of the Lord of all worlds?”

As-Saffat 37:88

Then he cast a glance at the stars

As-Saffat 37:89

and said, “I am ill.”

As-Saffat 37:90

So they turned away from him, departing.

As-Saffat 37:91

Then he slipped toward their gods and said, “Will you not eat?

As-Saffat 37:92

What is the matter with you that you do not speak?”

As-Saffat 37:93

Then he turned upon them, striking with his right hand.

As-Saffat 37:94

Then they came toward him, hurrying.

As-Saffat 37:95

He said, “Do you worship what you carve,

As-Saffat 37:96

while The God created you and what you make?”

As-Saffat 37:97

They said, “Build a structure for him, then throw him into the Blaze.”

As-Saffat 37:98

They intended a plot against him, so We made them the lowest.

As-Saffat 37:99

And he said, “I am going to my Lord; He will guide me.

As-Saffat 37:100

My Lord, grant me one of the righteous.”

As-Saffat 37:101

So We gave him good news of a forbearing boy.

As-Saffat 37:102

ۚ ۖ

When he reached the age of striving alongside him, he said, “My son, I see in sleep that I am slaughtering you; consider what you think.” He said, “My father, do what you are commanded. You will find me, if The God wills, among the patient.”

As-Saffat 37:103

When they both surrendered, and he laid him down upon his brow,

As-Saffat 37:104

and We called to him, “Abraham!

As-Saffat 37:105

ۚ

You have fulfilled the vision.” This is how We reward those who do good.

As-Saffat 37:106

This was indeed the clear trial.

As-Saffat 37:107

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.

As-Saffat 37:108

And We left for him among later generations:

As-Saffat 37:109

“Peace upon Abraham.”

As-Saffat 37:110

This is how We reward those who do good.

As-Saffat 37:111

He was among Our believing servants.

As-Saffat 37:112

And We gave him good news of Isaac, a prophet among the righteous.

As-Saffat 37:113

ۚ

And We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants are those who do good and those who clearly wrong themselves.

As-Saffat 37:114

And We bestowed favor upon Moses and Aaron.

As-Saffat 37:115

And We rescued them and their people from the great distress.

As-Saffat 37:116

And We helped them, so they were the victors.

As-Saffat 37:117

And We gave them the clarifying Book.

As-Saffat 37:118

And We guided them to the straight path.

As-Saffat 37:119

And We left for them among later generations:

As-Saffat 37:120

“Peace upon Moses and Aaron.”

As-Saffat 37:121

This is how We reward those who do good.

As-Saffat 37:122

They were among Our believing servants.

As-Saffat 37:123

And Elijah was among the messengers,

As-Saffat 37:124

when he said to his people, “Will you not be mindful?

As-Saffat 37:125

Do you call upon Baal and leave the best of creators,

As-Saffat 37:126

The God, your Lord and the Lord of your earlier forefathers?”

As-Saffat 37:127

But they denied him, so they will be brought forth,

As-Saffat 37:128

except the purified servants of The God.

As-Saffat 37:129

And We left for him among later generations:

As-Saffat 37:130

“Peace upon Ilyasin.”

As-Saffat 37:131

This is how We reward those who do good.

As-Saffat 37:132

He was among Our believing servants.

As-Saffat 37:133

And Lot was among the messengers,

As-Saffat 37:134

when We rescued him and all his family,

As-Saffat 37:135

except an old woman among those who remained behind.

As-Saffat 37:136

Then We destroyed the others.

As-Saffat 37:137

And you pass by them in the morning

As-Saffat 37:138

ۗ

and at night. Will you not reason?

As-Saffat 37:139

And Jonah was among the messengers,

As-Saffat 37:140

when he fled to the laden ship.

As-Saffat 37:141

Then he drew lots and was among those who lost.

As-Saffat 37:142

Then the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy.

As-Saffat 37:143

Had he not been among those who glorify,

As-Saffat 37:144

he would have remained in its belly until the day they are raised.

As-Saffat 37:145

Then We cast him onto bare ground while he was ill.

As-Saffat 37:146

And We caused a gourd plant to grow over him.

As-Saffat 37:147

And We sent him to a hundred thousand or more.

As-Saffat 37:148

Then they believed, so We let them enjoy life for a time.

As-Saffat 37:149

So ask them: Are daughters for your Lord, and sons for them?

As-Saffat 37:150

Or did We create the angels female while they were witnesses?

As-Saffat 37:151

Indeed, out of their falsehood they say,

As-Saffat 37:152

“The God has begotten”; and they are liars.

As-Saffat 37:153

Has He chosen daughters over sons?

As-Saffat 37:154

What is the matter with you? How do you judge?

As-Saffat 37:155

Will you not take heed?

As-Saffat 37:156

Or do you have clear authority?

As-Saffat 37:157

Then bring your book, if you are truthful.

As-Saffat 37:158

ۚ

And they made a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they will be brought forth.

As-Saffat 37:159

Glory be to The God, beyond what they describe,

As-Saffat 37:160

except the purified servants of The God.

As-Saffat 37:161

You and what you worship

As-Saffat 37:162

cannot tempt anyone against Him,

As-Saffat 37:163

except one who will burn in the Blaze.

As-Saffat 37:164

And there is none of us without a known station.

As-Saffat 37:165

And we are indeed those ranged in rows.

As-Saffat 37:166

And we are indeed those who glorify.

As-Saffat 37:167

And they used to say,

As-Saffat 37:168

“If we had a reminder from the earlier peoples,

As-Saffat 37:169

we would surely be the purified servants of The God.”

As-Saffat 37:170

ۖ

Yet they rejected it, and soon they will know.

As-Saffat 37:171

And Our word has already gone forth for Our servants, the messengers:

As-Saffat 37:172

they will indeed be those who are helped,

As-Saffat 37:173

and Our forces will indeed be the victors.

As-Saffat 37:174

So turn away from them for a time.

As-Saffat 37:175

And observe them; soon they will see.

As-Saffat 37:176

Do they then seek to hasten Our punishment?

As-Saffat 37:177

When it descends into their courtyard, how evil the morning of those who were warned!

As-Saffat 37:178

And turn away from them for a time.

As-Saffat 37:179

And observe; soon they will see.

As-Saffat 37:180

Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of might, beyond what they describe.

As-Saffat 37:181

And peace upon the messengers.

As-Saffat 37:182

And praise belongs to The God, Lord of all worlds.
