·Sad·88 Verses

In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Sad 38:1

ۚ

Sad. By the Quran bearing the reminder.

Sad 38:2

Rather, those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension.

Sad 38:3

How many generations We destroyed before them! Then they cried out, when it was no longer a time for escape.

Sad 38:4

ۖ

And they were astonished that a warner from among themselves came to them. The disbelievers said, “This is a magician, a persistent liar.

Sad 38:5

ۖ

Has he made the gods one god? This is indeed an astonishing thing.”

Sad 38:6

ۖ

And their leaders set out, saying, “Go and remain steadfast to your gods. This is indeed something intended.

Sad 38:7

We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is nothing but a fabrication.

Sad 38:8

ۚ ۖ

Has the reminder been sent down to him from among us?” Rather, they are in doubt about My reminder. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

Sad 38:9

Or do they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the Bestower?

Sad 38:10

ۖ

Or does the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them belong to them? Then let them ascend by the means.

Sad 38:11

There is a defeated force there, among the allied factions.

Sad 38:12

Before them, the people of Noah, Ad, and Pharaoh of the stakes denied,

Sad 38:13

ۚ

and Thamud, the people of Lot, and the people of the thicket. Those were the allied factions.

Sad 38:14

Every one of them denied the messengers, so My penalty came true.

Sad 38:15

These await only a single blast for which there is no respite.

Sad 38:16

And they said, “Our Lord, hasten our portion for us before the Day of Reckoning.”

Sad 38:17

ۖ

Be patient with what they say, and remember Our servant David, endowed with strength. He was ever returning.

Sad 38:18

We subjected the mountains with him, glorifying in the evening and at sunrise,

Sad 38:19

ۖ

and the birds, gathered together; all were returning to him.

Sad 38:20

And We strengthened his dominion and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.

Sad 38:21

Has the account of the disputants reached you, when they climbed over the wall of the sanctuary?

Sad 38:22

ۖ ۖ

When they entered upon David and he was alarmed by them, they said, “Do not fear. We are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other. Judge between us in truth, do not deviate, and guide us to the even path.

Sad 38:23

This is my brother. He has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe. He said, ‘Entrust it to me,’ and overpowered me in speech.”

Sad 38:24

ۖ ۗ ۩

He said, “He has wronged you by asking for your ewe to add to his ewes. Many partners wrong one another, except those who believe and do righteous deeds, and few are they.” And David realized that We had tested him. He sought his Lord’s forgiveness, fell down bowing, and turned back.

Sad 38:25

ۖ

So We forgave him that. For him with Us are nearness and a good place of return.

Sad 38:26

ۚ

David, We have made you a successor on earth, so judge between people in truth and do not follow desire, lest it lead you astray from the path of The God. Those who stray from the path of The God have a severe punishment for forgetting the Day of Reckoning.

Sad 38:27

ۚ ۚ

We did not create the heaven and the earth and whatever is between them in vain. That is the supposition of those who disbelieve. So woe to those who disbelieve, from the Fire.

Sad 38:28

Or should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like those who spread corruption on earth? Or should We treat the mindful like the wicked?

Sad 38:29

A blessed Book that We have sent down to you, so that they may ponder its verses and those of understanding may take heed.

Sad 38:30

ۚ ۖ

And We granted Solomon to David. What an excellent servant! He was ever returning.

Sad 38:31

When, in the evening, standing, swift horses were presented to him,

Sad 38:32

he said, “I preferred the love of good things over the remembrance of my Lord, until it disappeared behind the veil.

Sad 38:33

ۖ

Bring them back to me.” Then he began stroking their legs and necks.

Sad 38:34

And We tested Solomon and cast a body upon his throne; then he turned back.

Sad 38:35

ۖ

He said, “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a dominion that will not be fitting for anyone after me. You are indeed the Bestower.”

Sad 38:36

So We subjected the wind to him, flowing gently at his command wherever he intended,

Sad 38:37

and the devils, every builder and diver,

Sad 38:38

and others bound together in fetters.

Sad 38:39

This is Our gift; give or withhold without reckoning.

Sad 38:40

And for him with Us are nearness and a good place of return.

Sad 38:41

And remember Our servant Job, when he called to his Lord, “Satan has afflicted me with hardship and suffering.”

Sad 38:42

ۖ

Strike with your foot. Here is cool water for washing and drinking.

Sad 38:43

And We granted him his family and their like along with them, as mercy from Us and a reminder for those of understanding.

Sad 38:44

ۗ ۚ ۖ

And take a bundle of stalks in your hand, strike with it, and do not break your oath. We found him patient. What an excellent servant! He was ever returning.

Sad 38:45

And remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, endowed with strength and insight.

Sad 38:46

We purified them with a pure quality: remembrance of the abode.

Sad 38:47

And with Us they are among the chosen, the good.

Sad 38:48

ۖ

And remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl; all are among the good.

Sad 38:49

ۚ

This is a reminder. For the mindful there is a good place of return:

Sad 38:50

gardens of lasting residence, with their doors open to them.

Sad 38:51

Reclining there, they call for abundant fruit and drink.

Sad 38:52

And with them are women of equal age, with restrained gazes.

Sad 38:53

This is what you are promised for the Day of Reckoning.

Sad 38:54

This is Our provision, which has no end.

Sad 38:55

ۚ

This is so. For the transgressors there is an evil place of return:

Sad 38:56

Hell, in which they burn. What an evil resting place!

Sad 38:57

Here it is, so let them taste it: scalding water and foul discharge,

Sad 38:58

and other kinds like it.

Sad 38:59

ۖ ۚ

Here is a crowd rushing in with you. No welcome for them; they will burn in the Fire.

Sad 38:60

ۖ ۖ

They said, “Rather, no welcome for you! You brought this upon us. What an evil place to settle!”

Sad 38:61

They said, “Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us, increase his punishment twofold in the Fire.”

Sad 38:62

And they said, “Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the wicked?

Sad 38:63

Did we take them in ridicule, or have our eyes turned away from them?”

Sad 38:64

This is indeed true: the mutual disputing of the people of the Fire.

Sad 38:65

ۖ

Say, “I am only a warner. There is no god except The God, the One, the Subduer,

Sad 38:66

Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Mighty, the Ever-Forgiving.”

Sad 38:67

Say, “It is a great account

Sad 38:68

from which you turn away.

Sad 38:69

I had no knowledge of the highest assembly when they were disputing.

Sad 38:70

It is revealed to me only that I am a clear warner.”

Sad 38:71

When your Lord said to the angels, “I am creating a human from clay.

Sad 38:72

When I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration.”

Sad 38:73

Then the angels prostrated, all of them together,

Sad 38:74

except Iblis. He acted arrogantly and was among the disbelievers.

Sad 38:75

ۖ

He said, “Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My two hands? Were you arrogant, or were you among the exalted?”

Sad 38:76

ۖ

He said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire, and You created him from clay.”

Sad 38:77

He said, “Then leave it, for you are expelled.

Sad 38:78

And My curse is upon you until the Day of Recompense.”

Sad 38:79

He said, “My Lord, then grant me respite until the day they are raised.”

Sad 38:80

He said, “You are among those granted respite

Sad 38:81

until the day of the known time.”

Sad 38:82

He said, “Then by Your might, I will lead them all astray,

Sad 38:83

except Your purified servants among them.”

Sad 38:84

He said, “Then the truth—and the truth I speak:

Sad 38:85

I will surely fill Hell with you and all those among them who follow you.”

Sad 38:86

Say, “I ask you for no payment for it, and I am not among those who affect what they are not.

Sad 38:87

It is only a reminder for all peoples.

Sad 38:88

And after a time, you will know its account.”
