بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Al-Maarij 70:1

سَأَلَ سائِلٌ بِعَذابٍ واقِعٍ

A questioner asked for a punishment bound to occur,

Al-Maarij 70:2

لِلكٰفِرينَ لَيسَ لَهُ دافِعٌ

for the disbelievers, which none can repel,

Al-Maarij 70:3

مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِى المَعارِجِ

from The God, Lord of the ways of ascent.

Al-Maarij 70:4

تَعرُجُ المَلٰئِكَةُ وَالرّوحُ إِلَيهِ فى يَومٍ كانَ مِقدارُهُ خَمسينَ أَلفَ سَنَةٍ

The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day whose measure is fifty thousand years.

Al-Maarij 70:5

فَاصبِر صَبرًا جَميلًا

So endure with gracious patience.

Al-Maarij 70:6

إِنَّهُم يَرَونَهُ بَعيدًا

They see it as distant,

Al-Maarij 70:7

وَنَرىٰهُ قَريبًا

and We see it as near.

Al-Maarij 70:8

يَومَ تَكونُ السَّماءُ كَالمُهلِ

On the day when the sky is like molten metal,

Al-Maarij 70:9

وَتَكونُ الجِبالُ كَالعِهنِ

and the mountains are like wool,

Al-Maarij 70:10

وَلا يَسـَٔلُ حَميمٌ حَميمًا

and no close friend asks after a close friend,

Al-Maarij 70:11

يُبَصَّرونَهُم ۚ يَوَدُّ المُجرِمُ لَو يَفتَدى مِن عَذابِ يَومِئِذٍ بِبَنيهِ

though they are shown one another. The guilty one will wish to ransom himself from that day’s punishment with his sons,

Al-Maarij 70:12

وَصٰحِبَتِهِ وَأَخيهِ

and his wife and his brother,

Al-Maarij 70:13

وَفَصيلَتِهِ الَّتى تُـٔويهِ

and his clan that shelters him,

Al-Maarij 70:14

وَمَن فِى الأَرضِ جَميعًا ثُمَّ يُنجيهِ

and everyone on earth, all together, so that it might save him.

Al-Maarij 70:15

كَلّا ۖ إِنَّها لَظىٰ

No indeed! It is a blazing flame,

Al-Maarij 70:16

نَزّاعَةً لِلشَّوىٰ

stripping away the scalp,

Al-Maarij 70:17

تَدعوا مَن أَدبَرَ وَتَوَلّىٰ

calling whoever turned his back and turned away,

Al-Maarij 70:18

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوعىٰ

and gathered and hoarded.

Al-Maarij 70:19

إِنَّ الإِنسٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلوعًا

The human being was created fretful:

Al-Maarij 70:20

إِذا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزوعًا

anxious when harm touches him,

Al-Maarij 70:21

وَإِذا مَسَّهُ الخَيرُ مَنوعًا

and withholding when good touches him,

Al-Maarij 70:22

إِلَّا المُصَلّينَ

except those who pray,

Al-Maarij 70:23

الَّذينَ هُم عَلىٰ صَلاتِهِم دائِمونَ

those who remain constant in their prayer,

Al-Maarij 70:24

وَالَّذينَ فى أَموٰلِهِم حَقٌّ مَعلومٌ

and those in whose wealth there is a known right,

Al-Maarij 70:25

لِلسّائِلِ وَالمَحرومِ

for the one who asks and the deprived,

Al-Maarij 70:26

وَالَّذينَ يُصَدِّقونَ بِيَومِ الدّينِ

and those who affirm the Day of Recompense,

Al-Maarij 70:27

وَالَّذينَ هُم مِن عَذابِ رَبِّهِم مُشفِقونَ

and those who are apprehensive of their Lord’s punishment;

Al-Maarij 70:28

إِنَّ عَذابَ رَبِّهِم غَيرُ مَأمونٍ

indeed, their Lord’s punishment is not something to feel secure from;

Al-Maarij 70:29

وَالَّذينَ هُم لِفُروجِهِم حٰفِظونَ

and those who guard their private parts,

Al-Maarij 70:30

إِلّا عَلىٰ أَزوٰجِهِم أَو ما مَلَكَت أَيمٰنُهُم فَإِنَّهُم غَيرُ مَلومينَ

except with their spouses or those whom their right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy;

Al-Maarij 70:31

فَمَنِ ابتَغىٰ وَراءَ ذٰلِكَ فَأُولٰئِكَ هُمُ العادونَ

whoever seeks beyond that—those are the transgressors;

Al-Maarij 70:32

وَالَّذينَ هُم لِأَمٰنٰتِهِم وَعَهدِهِم رٰعونَ

and those who attend to their trusts and their covenant,

Al-Maarij 70:33

وَالَّذينَ هُم بِشَهٰدٰتِهِم قائِمونَ

and those who stand by their testimonies,

Al-Maarij 70:34

وَالَّذينَ هُم عَلىٰ صَلاتِهِم يُحافِظونَ

and those who safeguard their prayer,

Al-Maarij 70:35

أُولٰئِكَ فى جَنّٰتٍ مُكرَمونَ

those will be honored in gardens.

Al-Maarij 70:36

فَمالِ الَّذينَ كَفَروا قِبَلَكَ مُهطِعينَ

What is the matter with those who disbelieve, hastening toward you,

Al-Maarij 70:37

عَنِ اليَمينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمالِ عِزينَ

on the right and on the left, in groups?

Al-Maarij 70:38

أَيَطمَعُ كُلُّ امرِئٍ مِنهُم أَن يُدخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعيمٍ

Does each one of them hope to be admitted to a garden of delight?

Al-Maarij 70:39

كَلّا ۖ إِنّا خَلَقنٰهُم مِمّا يَعلَمونَ

No indeed! We created them from what they know.

Al-Maarij 70:40

فَلا أُقسِمُ بِرَبِّ المَشٰرِقِ وَالمَغٰرِبِ إِنّا لَقٰدِرونَ

So I swear by the Lord of the easts and the wests: We are able

Al-Maarij 70:41

عَلىٰ أَن نُبَدِّلَ خَيرًا مِنهُم وَما نَحنُ بِمَسبوقينَ

to replace them with better than them, and We cannot be outstripped.

Al-Maarij 70:42

فَذَرهُم يَخوضوا وَيَلعَبوا حَتّىٰ يُلٰقوا يَومَهُمُ الَّذى يوعَدونَ

So leave them to plunge into talk and play until they meet their day which they are promised,

Al-Maarij 70:43

يَومَ يَخرُجونَ مِنَ الأَجداثِ سِراعًا كَأَنَّهُم إِلىٰ نُصُبٍ يوفِضونَ

the day they emerge swiftly from the graves, as though rushing toward an erected marker,

Al-Maarij 70:44

خٰشِعَةً أَبصٰرُهُم تَرهَقُهُم ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذٰلِكَ اليَومُ الَّذى كانوا يوعَدونَ

their eyes downcast, humiliation covering them. That is the day they were promised.
