In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Al-Muddaththir 74:1
You who are cloaked,
Al-Muddaththir 74:2
arise and warn,
Al-Muddaththir 74:3
and magnify your Lord,
Al-Muddaththir 74:4
and purify your garments,
Al-Muddaththir 74:5
and shun defilement,
Al-Muddaththir 74:6
and do not give in order to gain more,
Al-Muddaththir 74:7
and be patient for your Lord.
Al-Muddaththir 74:8
When the trumpet is sounded,
Al-Muddaththir 74:9
that day will be a difficult day,
Al-Muddaththir 74:10
far from easy for the disbelievers.
Al-Muddaththir 74:11
Leave Me with the one I created alone,
Al-Muddaththir 74:12
and to whom I gave extensive wealth,
Al-Muddaththir 74:13
and sons at his side,
Al-Muddaththir 74:14
and made ample provision for him,
Al-Muddaththir 74:15
yet he hopes that I will add more.
Al-Muddaththir 74:16
ۖ
No indeed! He has been obstinate toward Our signs.
Al-Muddaththir 74:17
I will burden him with a grueling ascent.
Al-Muddaththir 74:18
He thought and calculated.
Al-Muddaththir 74:19
May he perish! How he calculated!
Al-Muddaththir 74:20
Again, may he perish! How he calculated!
Al-Muddaththir 74:21
Then he looked,
Al-Muddaththir 74:22
then frowned and scowled,
Al-Muddaththir 74:23
then turned away and grew arrogant,
Al-Muddaththir 74:24
and said, “This is nothing but magic handed down.
Al-Muddaththir 74:25
This is nothing but human speech.”
Al-Muddaththir 74:26
I will burn him in Saqar.
Al-Muddaththir 74:27
What will make you know what Saqar is?
Al-Muddaththir 74:28
It leaves nothing and spares nothing,
Al-Muddaththir 74:29
scorching the skin,
Al-Muddaththir 74:30
over it are nineteen.
Al-Muddaththir 74:31
ۙ ۙ ۙ ۚ ۚ ۚ
We appointed only angels as the keepers of the Fire, and made their number only a test for those who disbelieve, so that those given the Book may become certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those given the Book and the believers may not doubt, and so that those with sickness in their hearts and the disbelievers may say, “What does The God intend by this example?” Thus The God leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. None knows your Lord’s forces except Him. This is only a reminder for humankind.
Al-Muddaththir 74:32
No indeed! By the moon,
Al-Muddaththir 74:33
and the night as it retreats,
Al-Muddaththir 74:34
and the dawn as it brightens,
Al-Muddaththir 74:35
it is one of the greatest things,
Al-Muddaththir 74:36
a warning to humankind,
Al-Muddaththir 74:37
for whoever among you wishes to go forward or stay behind.
Al-Muddaththir 74:38
Every soul is held in pledge for what it has earned,
Al-Muddaththir 74:39
except the companions of the right,
Al-Muddaththir 74:40
in gardens, asking one another
Al-Muddaththir 74:41
about the guilty:
Al-Muddaththir 74:42
“What brought you into Saqar?”
Al-Muddaththir 74:43
They will say, “We were not among those who prayed,
Al-Muddaththir 74:44
and we did not feed the needy.
Al-Muddaththir 74:45
We used to plunge into idle talk with those who did so,
Al-Muddaththir 74:46
and we denied the Day of Recompense,
Al-Muddaththir 74:47
until certainty came to us.”
Al-Muddaththir 74:48
The intercession of intercessors will not benefit them.
Al-Muddaththir 74:49
What is the matter with them, turning away from the reminder,
Al-Muddaththir 74:50
as though they were startled wild donkeys,
Al-Muddaththir 74:51
fleeing from a lion?
Al-Muddaththir 74:52
Rather, each one of them wants to be given scrolls spread open.
Al-Muddaththir 74:53
ۖ
No indeed! Rather, they do not fear the Hereafter.
Al-Muddaththir 74:54
No indeed! It is a reminder.
Al-Muddaththir 74:55
Whoever wishes may take heed of it.
Al-Muddaththir 74:56
ۚ
They will not take heed unless The God wills. He is worthy of being held in awe and worthy of granting forgiveness.
