In the name of The God, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Al-Imran 3:1
Alif, Lam, Meem.
Al-Imran 3:2
The God—there is no god except Him, the Living, the Sustainer.
Al-Imran 3:3
He sent down the Book upon you in truth, confirming what is before it, and sent down the Torah and the Gospel,
Al-Imran 3:4
ۗ ۗ
Before, as guidance for people, and He sent down the discernment. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the signs of The God have a severe punishment. The God is mighty, possessing retribution.
Al-Imran 3:5
Indeed, nothing on earth or in heaven is hidden from The God.
Al-Imran 3:6
ۚ
He is the One who shapes you in the wombs as He wills. There is no god except Him, the Mighty, the Wise.
Al-Imran 3:7
ۖ ۗ ۗ ۗ
He is the One who sent down the Book upon you. In it are firm verses, the foundation of the Book, and others ambiguous. Those with deviation in their hearts follow what is ambiguous, seeking trial and seeking its interpretation. None knows its interpretation except The God. Those firmly grounded in knowledge say: We believe in it; all is from our Lord. None remember except people of understanding.
Al-Imran 3:8
ۚ
Our Lord, do not cause our hearts to deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Indeed, You are the Bestower.
Al-Imran 3:9
ۚ
Our Lord, You will surely gather people for a day in which there is no doubt. Indeed, The God does not fail His promise.
Al-Imran 3:10
ۖ
Indeed, those who disbelieve—their wealth and children will avail them nothing against The God. Those are the fuel of the Fire.
Al-Imran 3:11
ۚ ۗ
Like the practice of Pharaoh’s people and those before them: they denied Our signs, so The God seized them for their sins. The God is severe in punishment.
Al-Imran 3:12
ۚ
Say to those who disbelieve: You will be defeated and gathered into Hell—what an evil resting place!
Al-Imran 3:13
ۖ ۚ ۗ
There was a sign for you in two groups that met: one fighting in the way of The God, and another disbelieving. They saw them with their own eyes as twice their number. The God strengthens whom He wills with His help. Indeed, in that is a lesson for those with sight.
Al-Imran 3:14
ۗ ۖ
Love of desired things has been adorned for people: women, sons, amassed heaps of gold and silver, marked horses, livestock, and cultivated land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life; with The God is the best return.
Al-Imran 3:15
ۚ ۗ
Say: Shall I tell you of something better than these? For those who are mindful, with their Lord are gardens beneath which rivers flow, remaining in them, purified spouses, and approval from The God. The God sees the servants.
Al-Imran 3:16
Those who say: Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Al-Imran 3:17
The patient, the truthful, the devoted, those who spend, and those who seek forgiveness before dawn.
Al-Imran 3:18
ۚ
The God bears witness that there is no god except Him, as do the angels and those possessing knowledge; He upholds justice. There is no god except Him, the Mighty, the Wise.
Al-Imran 3:19
ۗ ۗ
Indeed, religion with The God is submission. Those given the Book differed only after knowledge came to them, through mutual transgression. Whoever disbelieves in the signs of The God—indeed, The God is swift in reckoning.
Al-Imran 3:20
ۗ ۚ ۖ ۗ
If they argue with you, say: I have submitted my face to The God, and so have those who follow me. Say to those given the Book and to the unlettered: Have you submitted? If they submit, they have found guidance. If they turn away, your responsibility is only to convey. The God sees the servants.
Al-Imran 3:21
Those who disbelieve in the signs of The God, kill the prophets without right, and kill people who command justice—give them news of a painful punishment.
Al-Imran 3:22
Those are the ones whose deeds have come to nothing in this world and the hereafter, and they have no helpers.
Al-Imran 3:23
Have you not seen those given a share of the Book? They are called to the Book of The God to judge between them; then a group of them turns away in aversion.
Al-Imran 3:24
ۖ
That is because they say: The Fire will touch us only for a counted number of days. What they fabricated deceived them in their religion.
Al-Imran 3:25
How will it be when We gather them for a day in which there is no doubt, and every soul is repaid in full for what it earned, and they are not wronged?
Al-Imran 3:26
ۖ ۖ
Say: O God, Owner of sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty from whom You will. You honour whom You will and humble whom You will. In Your hand is good. Indeed, You have power over all things.
Al-Imran 3:27
ۖ ۖ
You cause night to enter day and day to enter night. You bring the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living. You provide for whom You will without reckoning.
Al-Imran 3:28
ۖ ۗ ۗ
Let believers not take disbelievers as guardians instead of believers. Whoever does that has nothing with The God, unless you guard yourselves against them as a precaution. The God warns you of Himself, and to The God is the destination.
Al-Imran 3:29
ۗ ۗ
Say: Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, The God knows it. He knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. The God has power over all things.
Al-Imran 3:30
ۗ ۗ
The day every soul finds present whatever good it has done; as for the evil it has done, it wishes there were a great distance between itself and it. The God warns you of Himself, and The God is compassionate toward the servants.
Al-Imran 3:31
ۗ
Say: If you love The God, follow me; The God will love you and forgive your sins. The God is forgiving, merciful.
Al-Imran 3:32
ۖ
Say: Obey The God and the messenger. If they turn away, indeed, The God does not love the disbelievers.
Al-Imran 3:33
Indeed, The God chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran above all worlds,
Al-Imran 3:34
ۗ
Offspring, some from others. The God is hearing, knowing.
Al-Imran 3:35
ۖ
When the wife of Imran said: My Lord, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, set free. Accept it from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.
Al-Imran 3:36
ۖ
When she delivered her, she said: My Lord, I have delivered a female—and The God knew best what she had delivered—and the male is not like the female. I have named her Mary, and I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from the expelled Satan.
Al-Imran 3:37
ۖ ۖ ۖ ۖ
Her Lord accepted her with a good acceptance, caused her to grow well, and placed her in Zechariah’s care. Whenever Zechariah entered the sanctuary to visit her, he found provision with her. He said: Mary, where is this from? She said: It is from The God. Indeed, The God provides for whom He wills without reckoning.
Al-Imran 3:38
ۖ ۖ
There Zechariah called upon his Lord. He said: My Lord, grant me wholesome offspring from Yourself. Indeed, You hear prayer.
Al-Imran 3:39
The angels called to him while he stood praying in the sanctuary: The God gives you good news of Yahya, confirming a word from The God, noble, restrained, and a prophet among the righteous.
Al-Imran 3:40
ۖ
He said: My Lord, how can I have a boy when old age has reached me and my wife is barren? He said: Thus The God does what He wills.
Al-Imran 3:41
ۖ ۗ
He said: My Lord, appoint a sign for me. He said: Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three days except by gesture. Remember your Lord much, and glorify Him in the evening and early morning.
Al-Imran 3:42
When the angels said: Mary, The God has chosen you, purified you, and chosen you above the women of all worlds.
Al-Imran 3:43
Mary, be devoted to your Lord, prostrate, and bow with those who bow.
Al-Imran 3:44
ۚ
This is news of the unseen which We reveal to you. You were not with them when they cast their pens to decide which of them would care for Mary, nor were you with them when they disputed.
Al-Imran 3:45
When the angels said: Mary, The God gives you good news of a word from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honoured in this world and the hereafter, and among those brought near.
Al-Imran 3:46
He will speak to people in the cradle and in maturity, and will be among the righteous.
Al-Imran 3:47
ۖ ۚ
She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child when no human has touched me?” He said, “Thus The God creates whatever He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.”
Al-Imran 3:48
And He will teach him the Book and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel.
Al-Imran 3:49
ۖ ۖ ۖ ۚ
And as a messenger to the Children of Israel: “I have brought you a sign from your Lord. I form for you out of clay the shape of a bird, then breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by The God’s permission. I heal the one born blind and the leper, and bring the dead to life by The God’s permission. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. In this is a sign for you, if you are believers.
Al-Imran 3:50
ۚ
And confirming what preceded me of the Torah, and so that I may make lawful for you some of what has been forbidden to you; and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. So be mindful of The God and obey me.
Our Reflection
Among the Children of Israel, Jesus presents himself as confirming the Torah while also speaking of his mission to make some earlier prohibitions lawful. To understand these two responsibilities, we must distinguish between revealed scripture and what had become established in society over generations in the name of religion. Not all beliefs, rulings, and religious restrictions prevalent among a people necessarily originated in the divine Book. Some might be commands from God, some restrictions that a person imposed on himself, and some statements and interpretations of religious leaders that gradually came to occupy the place of divine rulings. The Qur’an itself provides evidence of these different situations concerning the Children of Israel.
Jesus’ declaration, “وَمُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ”, shows that his mission was not separate from the guidance of earlier prophets. In Al-Maidah 5:46, Jesus son of Mary is likewise described as confirming the Torah, and the Gospel is described as a book containing guidance and light. Jesus therefore did not come to deny earlier revelation, but to bear witness to its divine truth. Confirming the Torah, however, did not mean endorsing every statement, interpretation, and tradition that human beings had attributed to it throughout history. Fidelity to revelation is not the same as submission to everything that has circulated in revelation’s name.
This distinction becomes more significant in “وَلِأُحِلَّ لَكُم بَعْضَ الَّذِي حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ”. Jesus says he has come to make lawful for the Children of Israel some of what had been forbidden to them. “Baʿd,” some, indicates that the statement concerns lifting part of the prohibitions, not all of them. Another important point is that “hurrima” is a passive verb: the verse does not state who prohibited those things. To identify the origins of those restrictions, we must turn to other Qur’anic evidence.
Ali Imran 3:93 states that before the Torah was revealed, foods were lawful for the Children of Israel except what Israel had forbidden himself. This is a clear example of a restriction originating in a person’s own choice. On the other hand, An-Nisa 4:160 and Al-Anam 6:146 speak of prohibitions that God Himself imposed because of the wrongdoing and transgression of a group among the Children of Israel. Earlier restrictions therefore did not all have the same origin, and they cannot be treated without examination as permanent and universal rulings of the Torah.
Alongside these cases, the Qur’an exposes the involvement of religious authorities in attributing human statements to God. In Ali Imran 3:78, some among the People of the Book presented statements in such a way that people would think they came from God’s Book, although they were not from it. At-Tawbah 9:31 also speaks of those who took their scholars and monks as lords instead of God. This evidence shows that among some groups of the People of the Book, human authority had risen to a position in which a religious leader’s words could be accepted as a religious command. The involvement of scholars in creating or entrenching some religious restrictions is thus a possibility with Qur’anic support, although verse 3:50 itself does not specify which prohibitions addressed by Jesus had been created by those scholars.
What is clear from Jesus’ own words is relief by divine authorization. To people living under earlier rulings and restrictions, he announces that some of what had been forbidden to them is now made lawful. This relief shows that a religious restriction cannot be regarded as permanently binding simply because it is old. Even a prohibition that God Himself imposed under particular circumstances can be lifted by His permission. Likewise, what human beings have added to religion without divine authorization must not be imposed on people in the name of fidelity to God.
Yet this same danger reappeared among Jesus’ followers. In Al-Hadid 57:27, the Qur’an speaks of the compassion and mercy God placed in the hearts of his followers, then mentions monasticism that they introduced although God had not prescribed it for them. Thus, even after a prophet came who lifted some earlier restrictions, people again developed a religious practice that did not originate in a prescribed divine command. A person may choose a difficult path for themselves intending to seek God’s pleasure, but good intentions alone do not establish that the path is a divine obligation for everyone.
This experience in the history of the Children of Israel and Jesus’ followers also offers a clear warning to Muslims today. We too may make religion difficult for ourselves and others by appealing to assorted reports, inherited legal opinions, and the views of religious leaders. Sometimes, concerning eating certain animals, using gold and silk, music, keeping dogs, growing a beard, and many daily activities, rulings and details are constructed that people regard as God’s definitive commands without clear evidence being presented from the divine Book. Anyone who declares these matters obligatory or forbidden in God’s name must show where The God has prescribed such a ruling. The fame of a report or the age of a legal opinion does not itself turn it into revelation.
If clerics, muftis, and other religious leaders declare things lawful or forbidden without divine evidence, and people place their words in the position of God’s final command, the same danger of taking human beings as lords recurs that the Qur’an condemns in At-Tawbah 9:31. A scholar may teach, offer evidence, and help people understand the Book, but has no right to turn a personal opinion into binding religious law without God’s authorization. An-Nahl 16:116 also explicitly prohibits inventing designations of lawful and forbidden and falsely attributing them to God. This subject is examined in detail in “Halal and Haram in the Qur’an: Divine Legislative Authority and the Danger of Associating Partners in Religion”.
Nevertheless, the relief Jesus brought did not mean he possessed independent authority to change religion. He himself says, “وَجِئْتُكُم بِآيَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ”: I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. In the preceding verse, Ali Imran 3:49, the signs of his mission are presented with an emphasis on God’s permission. Making some prohibitions lawful was therefore also part of his divine mission, not independent legislation in opposition to the Lord. Jesus spoke with revelation and a divine sign and called people to God’s command.
This truth becomes clearer at the end of the verse: “فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ”. Jesus first commands people to be mindful of God and then to obey him. Obedience to him is obedience to a messenger who has come with a divine mission and authorization; it does not confer the status of an object of worship or independent legislative authority on a human being. In Ali Imran 3:51, God also states through Jesus’ words that his Lord and the people’s Lord are one, and that they must worship that Lord. Jesus’ path therefore does not end in servitude to himself; it returns people to the service of The God.
The lesson of this verse for us today is clear: fidelity to religion means fidelity to revealed truth, not the unquestioning defense of every inherited ruling and custom. Jesus confirmed the Torah while lifting some earlier prohibitions by God’s permission. No one therefore has the right to sanctify human-made restrictions in the name of religion and close again the paths God has opened for His servants. Just as making lawful what God has forbidden without His permission is not acceptable, forbidding what He has permitted also means assuming the position of divine legislation. The prophets’ path is a call to truth and service to God, not the addition of chains that He has not prescribed for His servants.

Those who disbelieve—their wealth and their children will not avail them at all against The God. They are the companions of the Fire, remaining in it.
Al-Imran 3:117
ۚ
The likeness of what they spend in this worldly life is that of a wind containing bitter cold, which strikes the harvest of people who wronged themselves and destroys it. The God did not wrong them; rather, they wrong themselves.
Al-Imran 3:118
ۚ ۖ
You who believe, do not take as intimates those outside yourselves who spare no effort to corrupt you and wish for your hardship. Hatred has appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have made the signs clear to you, if you reason.
Al-Imran 3:119
ۚ ۗ
Here you are, loving them while they do not love you, and you believe in the whole Book. When they meet you, they say, “We believe,” but when alone, they bite their fingertips in rage at you. Say, “Die in your rage.” The God knows what is within the breasts.
Al-Imran 3:120
ۖ ۗ
If good touches you, it grieves them; if harm befalls you, they rejoice in it. If you are patient and mindful, their scheming will not harm you at all. The God encompasses what they do.
Al-Imran 3:121
ۗ
When you left your family in the morning, assigning the believers positions for battle. The God is Hearing, Knowing.
Al-Imran 3:122
ۗ
When two groups among you were about to lose heart, while The God was their guardian. Let the believers put their trust in The God.
Al-Imran 3:123
ۖ
The God helped you at Badr when you were weak. So be mindful of The God, so that you may be grateful.
Al-Imran 3:124
When you said to the believers, “Is it not enough for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?”
Al-Imran 3:125
ۚ
Yes, if you are patient and mindful, and they come upon you in this sudden rush, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand marked angels.
Al-Imran 3:126
ۗ
The God made it only as good news for you, and so that your hearts might be reassured by it. Help comes only from The God, the Almighty, the Wise,
Al-Imran 3:127
to cut off a part of those who disbelieved, or abase them so that they turn back disappointed.
Al-Imran 3:128
You have no part in the matter: whether He turns to them or punishes them, for they are wrongdoers.
Al-Imran 3:129
ۚ ۚ
To The God belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. The God is Forgiving, Merciful.
Al-Imran 3:130
ۖ
You who believe, do not consume usury multiplied many times over. Be mindful of The God, so that you may succeed.
Al-Imran 3:131
Guard yourselves against the Fire prepared for the disbelievers.
Al-Imran 3:132
Obey The God and the messenger, so that you may receive mercy.
Al-Imran 3:133
Hasten toward forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the mindful:
Al-Imran 3:134
ۗ
those who spend in ease and hardship, restrain anger, and pardon people. The God loves those who do good.
Al-Imran 3:135
And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember The God and ask forgiveness for their sins—and who forgives sins except The God?—and do not knowingly persist in what they have done.
Al-Imran 3:136
ۚ
Their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow, remaining in them. How excellent is the reward of those who act.
Al-Imran 3:137
Ways have passed before you. So travel through the earth and see how the deniers ended.
Al-Imran 3:138
This is a clarification for people, and guidance and admonition for the mindful.
Al-Imran 3:139
Do not weaken or grieve; you will be uppermost, if you are believers.
Al-Imran 3:140
ۚ ۗ
If a wound has touched you, a similar wound has touched the other people. These days We alternate among people, and so that The God may know those who believe and take witnesses from among you. The God does not love the wrongdoers.
Al-Imran 3:141
And so that The God may purify those who believe and wipe out the disbelievers.
Al-Imran 3:142
Or did you think that you would enter the Garden before The God knows those among you who strive and knows the patient?
Al-Imran 3:143
You used to wish for death before meeting it. Now you have seen it while looking on.
Al-Imran 3:144
ۚ ۚ ۗ
Muhammad is only a messenger; messengers have passed before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? Whoever turns back on his heels will not harm The God at all. The God will reward the grateful.
Al-Imran 3:145
ۗ ۚ
No soul can die except by The God’s permission, a decree with an appointed term. Whoever desires the reward of this world, We give him from it; whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter, We give him from it. We will reward the grateful.
Al-Imran 3:146
ۗ
How many a prophet fought, with many devoted people alongside him. They did not lose heart because of what befell them in The God’s path, nor weaken, nor yield. The God loves the patient.
Al-Imran 3:147
Their words were only: “Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses in our affairs, make our feet firm, and help us against the disbelieving people.”
Al-Imran 3:148
ۗ
So The God gave them the reward of this world and the excellence of the reward of the Hereafter. The God loves those who do good.
Al-Imran 3:149
You who believe, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will turn back as losers.
Al-Imran 3:150
ۖ
Rather, The God is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.
Al-Imran 3:151
ۖ ۚ
We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve, because they associated with The God that for which He sent down no authority. Their refuge is the Fire; how wretched is the abode of the wrongdoers.
Al-Imran 3:152
ۖ ۚ ۚ ۖ ۗ
The God fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing them by His permission, until you lost heart, disputed over the command, and disobeyed after He had shown you what you loved. Among you are those who desire this world, and among you are those who desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them to test you. He has pardoned you, and The God is bountiful toward the believers.
Al-Imran 3:153
ۗ
When you were moving away, turning toward no one, while the messenger called you from behind, He repaid you with grief upon grief, so that you would not grieve over what escaped you or what befell you. The God is aware of what you do.
Al-Imran 3:154
ۖ ۖ ۗ ۗ ۖ ۗ ۖ ۗ
Then, after the grief, He sent down upon you security: a drowsiness that covered a group of you. Another group cared only about themselves, thinking of The God what was untrue, the thought of ignorance. They said, “Do we have any part in the matter?” Say, “The matter belongs entirely to The God.” They conceal within themselves what they do not reveal to you. They say, “If we had any part in the matter, we would not have been killed here.” Say, “Even if you had been in your houses, those for whom killing was decreed would have gone out to their resting places.” And so that The God might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. The God knows what is within the breasts.
Al-Imran 3:155
ۖ ۗ
Those of you who turned away on the day the two forces met—Satan caused them to slip only because of some of what they had earned. The God has pardoned them. The God is Forgiving, Forbearing.
Al-Imran 3:156
ۗ ۗ
You who believe, do not be like those who disbelieve and say of their brothers when they travel through the land or go into battle, “Had they been with us, they would not have died or been killed,” so that The God makes that a regret in their hearts. The God gives life and causes death, and The God sees what you do.
Al-Imran 3:157
If you are killed in The God’s path or die, forgiveness and mercy from The God are better than what they accumulate.
Al-Imran 3:158
Whether you die or are killed, to The God you will surely be gathered.
Al-Imran 3:159
ۖ ۖ ۖ ۚ
Through mercy from The God, you were gentle with them. Had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would have dispersed from around you. So pardon them, ask forgiveness for them, and consult them in the matter. Then, when you have resolved, put your trust in The God. The God loves those who trust in Him.
Al-Imran 3:160
ۖ ۗ
If The God helps you, none can overcome you. If He abandons you, who can help you after Him? Let the believers put their trust in The God.
Al-Imran 3:161
ۚ ۚ
It is not for a prophet to misappropriate. Whoever misappropriates will bring what he misappropriated on the Day of Resurrection. Then every soul will be repaid in full for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.
Al-Imran 3:162
ۚ
Is one who follows The God’s pleasure like one who incurs anger from The God and whose refuge is Hell? What a wretched destination.
Al-Imran 3:163
ۗ
They have ranks with The God, and The God sees what they do.
Al-Imran 3:164
The God bestowed a favor upon the believers when He raised among them a messenger from themselves, reciting His signs to them, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although before that they were in clear error.
Al-Imran 3:165
ۖ ۗ
When a calamity struck you, though you had inflicted twice as much, did you say, “Where is this from?” Say, “It is from yourselves.” The God is powerful over all things.
Al-Imran 3:166
What befell you on the day the two forces met was by The God’s permission, and so that He might know the believers,
Al-Imran 3:167
ۚ ۖ ۗ ۚ ۗ
and so that He might know those who acted hypocritically. They were told, “Come, fight in The God’s path, or defend.” They said, “If we knew of fighting, we would follow you.” That day they were nearer to disbelief than to faith. They say with their mouths what is not in their hearts, and The God knows best what they conceal.
Al-Imran 3:168
ۗ
Those who stayed behind and said of their brothers, “Had they obeyed us, they would not have been killed.” Say, “Then ward off death from yourselves, if you are truthful.”
Al-Imran 3:169
ۚ
Do not think of those killed in The God’s path as dead. Rather, they are alive, provided for with their Lord,
Al-Imran 3:170
rejoicing in what The God has given them from His bounty, and glad for those left behind who have not yet joined them: that no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.
Al-Imran 3:171
They rejoice in favor and bounty from The God, and that The God does not let the believers’ reward be lost.
Al-Imran 3:172
ۚ
Those who responded to The God and the messenger after wounds had struck them—for those among them who did good and were mindful is a great reward.
Al-Imran 3:173
Those to whom people said, “The people have gathered against you, so fear them,” but it increased them in faith, and they said, “The God is enough for us, and excellent is the Trustee.”
Al-Imran 3:174
ۗ
So they returned with favor and bounty from The God, untouched by harm, and followed The God’s pleasure. The God is the possessor of great bounty.
Al-Imran 3:175
It is only Satan who frightens you with his allies. So do not fear them, but fear Me, if you are believers.
Al-Imran 3:176
ۚ ۗ ۖ
Do not let those who hasten into disbelief grieve you. They will not harm The God at all. The God intends to give them no share in the Hereafter, and theirs is a great punishment.
Al-Imran 3:177
Those who purchase disbelief in exchange for faith will not harm The God at all, and theirs is a painful punishment.
Al-Imran 3:178
ۚ ۚ
Let those who disbelieve not think that Our granting them respite is good for them. We grant them respite only so that they may increase in sin, and theirs is a humiliating punishment.
Al-Imran 3:179
ۗ ۖ ۚ
The God would not leave the believers as you are until He distinguishes the impure from the good. Nor would The God disclose the unseen to you, but The God chooses from His messengers whom He wills. So believe in The God and His messengers. If you believe and are mindful, yours is a great reward.
Al-Imran 3:180
ۖ ۖ ۗ ۗ
Let those who withhold what The God has given them from His bounty not think it is good for them. Rather, it is bad for them. What they withheld will be hung around their necks on the Day of Resurrection. To The God belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth, and The God is aware of what you do.
Al-Imran 3:181
ۘ
The God has heard the words of those who said, “The God is poor, and we are rich.” We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right, and We will say, “Taste the punishment of burning.”
Al-Imran 3:182
That is because of what your hands sent ahead, and because The God is not unjust to His servants.
Al-Imran 3:183
ۗ
Those who said, “The God has bound us not to believe a messenger until he brings us an offering consumed by fire.” Say, “Messengers came to you before me with clear proofs and with what you speak of. Why, then, did you kill them, if you are truthful?”
Al-Imran 3:184
If they deny you, messengers before you were also denied, who came with clear proofs, scriptures, and the illuminating Book.
Al-Imran 3:185
ۗ ۖ ۗ
Every soul will taste death, and you will be paid your rewards in full only on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to the Garden has succeeded. The life of this world is only an enjoyment of delusion.
Al-Imran 3:186
ۚ
You will surely be tested in your wealth and your lives. You will surely hear much hurt from those who were given the Book before you and from those who associate partners. If you are patient and mindful, that is among matters requiring resolve.
Al-Imran 3:187
ۖ
When The God took the covenant of those who were given the Book: “You must make it clear to people and not conceal it.” But they cast it behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. How wretched is what they obtain.
Al-Imran 3:188
ۖ
Do not think that those who rejoice in what they have done and love to be praised for what they have not done—do not think they will escape the punishment. Theirs is a painful punishment.
Al-Imran 3:189
ۗ
To The God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and The God is powerful over all things.
Al-Imran 3:190
In the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day are signs for people of understanding:
Al-Imran 3:191
those who remember The God standing, sitting, and on their sides, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth: “Our Lord, You did not create this in vain. Glory be to You; protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Al-Imran 3:192
ۖ
Our Lord, whoever You admit to the Fire, You have disgraced. The wrongdoers have no helpers.
Al-Imran 3:193
ۚ
Our Lord, we heard a caller calling to faith: ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we believed. Our Lord, forgive our sins, remove our misdeeds, and take us with the righteous.
Al-Imran 3:194
ۗ
Our Lord, give us what You promised us through Your messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. You do not break the promise.”
Al-Imran 3:195
ۖ ۖ ۗ
Their Lord answered them: “I do not let the work of any worker among you, male or female, be lost. You are of one another. Those who emigrated, were driven from their homes, were harmed in My path, fought, and were killed—I will remove their misdeeds and admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, a reward from The God.” With The God is the finest reward.
Al-Imran 3:196
Do not let the movement of those who disbelieve through the lands deceive you.
Al-Imran 3:197
ۚ
A little enjoyment; then their refuge is Hell. What a wretched resting place.
Al-Imran 3:198
ۗ
But those who are mindful of their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, remaining in them, a welcome from The God. What is with The God is better for the righteous.
Al-Imran 3:199
ۗ ۗ
Among the People of the Book are those who believe in The God, in what was sent down to you, and in what was sent down to them, humble before The God, not exchanging The God’s signs for a small price. They have their reward with their Lord. The God is swift in reckoning.
Al-Imran 3:200
You who believe, be patient, persevere, remain steadfast, and be mindful of The God, so that you may succeed.
